Deep within the Star Dou Forest.
This is the oldest forbidden zone on the Douluo Continent, where ten-thousand-year soul beasts are as common as hair on an ox, and Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beast are far from mere legend.
Even powerhouses at the Title Douluo level dare not easily set foot in the heart of this region.
Towering ancient trees blot out the sun, their dense branches and leaves slicing the sunlight into fragments that scatter sparsely upon the ground, while the air is thick with the scent of rotting leaves and wild beasts.
Logically speaking, such a place should never bear any traces of human activity.
Yet, deep within the dense forest, on a seemingly ordinary clearing, stands a small courtyard.
The courtyard is not large, with Blue Brick and dark tiles, a picket fence, and a few patches of unknown flowers and plants growing in the corners.
If not for the primeval forest blotting out the sky all around, anyone would think this was just an ordinary farmhouse.
But this very courtyard has lain quietly in the deepest part of the Star Dou Forest, neighbors with countless ferocious soul beasts, existing safely for a full hundred thousand years.
"Creak—"
The stone door of the basement is pushed open, and a slender figure drags his lazy footsteps out.
He is a young man who looks no more than twenty, dressed in black with black hair, his features handsome.
Only, at this moment, his body is covered in dark red bloodstains; some have already dried and blackened, while others still carry a warm, fishy stench, as if he had just crawled out of a mountain of corpses and a sea of blood.
However, the young man does not care in the slightest. He casually plucks a foxtail grass from the edge of the courtyard wall, sticks it in his mouth, and lies down on a rattan chair in the yard, squinting his eyes at the sky sliced by the canopy above, as comfortable as if he were on vacation.
His name is Jiang Li.
He is a transmigrator.
One hundred thousand years ago, he inexplicably transmigrated to this Douluo Continent.
Back then, the Douluo Continent was rampant with soul beasts, and humans were merely ants struggling to survive in the cracks.
Fortunately, he awakened a Sign-in System.
By insisting on signing in every day, he could obtain rewards.
Soul bones, soul rings, cultivation techniques, medicinal pills, bloodlines, divine artifacts... as long as the sign-in time was long enough, there was nothing he could not obtain.
It was by relying on this system, day after day, year after year, that Jiang Li stepped onto the peak of this continent step by step.
He even became husband and wife with Xiao Rou, the Soft Bone Charm Rabbit, who is already a Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beast and is hailed as one of the top ten beauties of the continent.
That was until he received a long-term sign-in mission: to suppress the Abyss crack located in the Star Dou Forest.
One hundred thousand years have passed, and he can no longer remember how many times he has signed in; the treasures in his hands have piled up into mountains, and there are some whose origins he has almost forgotten himself.
He casts his gaze over every inch of the courtyard, his eyes calm and waveless.
Those seemingly ordinary blue stone floor tiles are, in reality, each polished from divine stone.
If these floor tiles were dismantled and forged into weapons, it would be enough to make any Title Douluo go crazy, or even trigger a bloody storm across the entire continent.
Beneath the floor, a vast Spirit Gathering Array is inscribed.
The spiritual energy of heaven and earth is drawn in continuously, converging into an invisible sea of spiritual energy within this small courtyard.
Even an ordinary pig, if it lived here for a few years, would be enough to shed its mortal shell and become a pig king of the hundred-thousand-year level.
If not for the fact that Jiang Li set up a Heavenly Concealment Array for fear of the Abyss aura leaking out, the terrifying spiritual energy and the aura emitted by the countless treasures within this courtyard would have long since alerted the outside world and driven the entire continent into a frenzy.
However, Jiang Li does not care about any of this.
It has been a hundred thousand years; what good things has he not seen?
Just as Jiang Li is half-asleep, a crisp sound suddenly rings out in his mind.
[Ding! Detected that the host is already at the sign-in location, please sign in!]
Jiang Li does not even open his eyes, lazily spitting out two words: "Sign in."
[Ding! Congratulations to the host for obtaining the soul bone—Death Spider Emperor Skull! Please collect it!]
The moment the voice falls, a dark purple light appears out of thin air in front of Jiang Li.
As the light dissipates, a skull the size of a fist floats slowly in the air, its entire body presenting a deep purple-black, the surface covered in web-like patterns, emitting a chilling, sinister aura that makes one's heart tremble.
Death Spider Emperor.
In the soul beast atlas of the Douluo Continent, this belongs to one of the top-tier predators.
A single adult Death Spider Emperor is enough to make even a powerhouse at the Title Douluo level wary.
An External Soul Bone is even more of a top-grade among soul bones; if it were to flow into the outside world, one can only imagine what kind of waves it would stir up.
However, Jiang Li only glances at it indifferently, not even having the interest to reach out and take it.
"Another soul bone? Not bad."
He waves his hand casually, and a verdant green light surges from his palm, enveloping the Death Spider Emperor Skull.
Beast-taming skill—Resurrection.
This is Jiang Li's unique ability.
Ordinary soul masters who obtain a soul bone can only fuse it into their own bodies to enhance their own combat power.
But Jiang Li was different; with the power of beast taming, he could resurrect inanimate spirit bones, turning them back into living spirit beasts.
The green light grew increasingly vibrant, and the skull began to tremble violently.
Bones grew, meridians regenerated, flesh filled in, and a layer of pitch-black carapace slowly took shape within the radiance.
In just a few breaths, a complete Death Spider Emperor appeared in the courtyard.
It prostrated itself before Jiang Li, its eight long, slender spider legs bent against the ground, its dark purple compound eyes filled with devotion and awe, as if worshipping its own deity.
"Go, join the army fighting against the Abyss."
Jiang Li waved his hand, as if dismissing an insignificant pawn.
The Death Spider Emperor let out a low hiss, bowed its head respectfully, and turned to walk toward the entrance of the basement.
The stone door of the basement opened once more.
In that very instant, a suffocating aura of slaughter surged out from the gap.
It was the scent of mountains of corpses and seas of blood, the bloody and violent residue that could only be accumulated on a battlefield where countless beings fought to the death.
Through that crack, one could glimpse the vast, boundless space underground, where a dense army of spirit beasts was locked in a fierce battle against unknown scarlet creatures.
Those scarlet creatures were hideous and terrifying, their bodies appearing as if formed from congealed blood, exuding a nauseating, evil aura.
They poured out endlessly from a fissure deep within the earth, like a tide that would never run dry.
That fissure was the entrance to the Abyss plane.
And Jiang Li, alone, suppressed the entire Abyss plane.
For one hundred thousand years, he had built this small courtyard atop the Abyssal fissure, sealing it with supreme cultivation.
In that underground space, his army of countless spirit beasts, resurrected over the last hundred thousand years, fought the Abyssal creatures day and night without rest, pinning them firmly to one side of the fissure and preventing even a shred of Abyssal aura from leaking out.
Abyssal creatures were immortal and indestructible; even if slain, they would simply re-form within the Abyss plane.
Thus, this war had no end.
This was precisely why Jiang Li isolated the courtyard, refusing to let Xiao Rou and the others enter.
The Abyssal aura's erosion of living beings was pervasive; even the slightest leak would be a catastrophic problem.
The stone door slowly closed, cutting off that suffocating aura once again.
The figure of the Death Spider Emperor vanished into the darkness behind the door, becoming just another member of the spirit beast army.
Jiang Li lay back down on his rattan chair and let out a yawn.
Just as he intended to get a good night's sleep, his ears twitched, and he opened one eye.
In the dense forest outside the courtyard, a terrifying aura was approaching from afar, rushing toward this location at an astonishing speed.
The aura was so tyrannical that every step it took caused the earth to tremble slightly.
"What is this ape... in such a frantic hurry for?"
