Background / History
Tang San met Xiao Wu after she transformed from a soul beast into a human. He brought her to Martial Soul City, the headquarters of Martial Soul Hall—a destination Er Ming viewed as fatal for a Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beast in human form. 2
During the Continental Advanced Spirit Master Elite Tournament, Tang San defeated Martial Soul Hall’s younger competitors. He deliberately injured himself by reversing the flow of his Mysterious Heaven Skill, using Xiao Wu’s concern to deepen her trust in him. 5
He covertly used Controlling Crane Capturing Dragon to knock the Lovesick Heartbreak Red from Xiao Wu twice, removing the flower’s suppression of her soul beast aura and exposing her identity. His private aim was to drive her into a situation where she would willingly sacrifice her Hundred-Thousand-Year soul ring and soul bone for his use. 5 7 8 9
Tang San publicly positioned himself as Xiao Wu’s protector, even while maneuvering her into the attack range of Martial Soul Hall’s Title Douluo. The Golden Light Eagle recognized this deception and opposed him while protecting Xiao Wu. 6 10 15
Xiao Wu was ultimately taken back to the Star Dou Forest by Er Ming. Tang San publicly grieved her departure, but privately lamented the loss of the Hundred-Thousand-Year soul ring he sought. 18 36
After a flying knife nearly killed Bibi Dong, Martial Soul Hall attributed the attack to Tang San and Tang Hao, placing both on its Must-Kill List. Golden Crocodile Douluo later pursued Tang San and Tang Hao, attempting to kill Tang San before Tang Hao intercepted the attack. 22 35 36
Appearance
Tang San is depicted as a youth. After the tournament, he appears bloodied and exhausted, with pale features, blood-stained clothing, and a visibly weakened posture that he uses to reinforce his image as a self-sacrificing protector. 5 6 15
- Often maintains a carefully controlled expression of sincerity, grief, or resolve. 7 15 18 36
- Possessed shattered fragments of the Eight Spider Lances following the tournament. 6 10
- Carries the Wisdom Skull of Mental Aggregation after leaving Martial Soul City. 36
Personality
Tang San is calculating, image-conscious, and intensely ambitious. He repeatedly performs injury, grief, loyalty, and self-sacrifice to secure Xiao Wu’s trust and to influence observers, while internally treating her Hundred-Thousand-Year soul ring and soul bone as resources for his own ascent. 5 7 9 10 12
He is exceptionally skilled at controlling his outward reactions. Even when Tang Hao disrupts his plans or questions him directly, Tang San immediately adopts expressions of devotion, shock, or wounded innocence. Tang Hao begins to suspect that something is wrong despite nearly believing him. 7 8 18 36
His desire for power drives much of his conduct. Tang San resents Tang Hao’s strength and soul ring, is frustrated by the loss of Xiao Wu’s potential sacrifice, and considers a Hundred-Thousand-Year soul ring more valuable than the Wisdom Skull of Mental Aggregation he receives. 8 18 36
