"We probably still have a long way to go. We might even run into some Ferocious Beasts."
If Li Pu remembered correctly, there was still a snake ahead, as well as a sea of blood with no path through it.
Bibi Dong nodded.
"Okay."
What they had encountered so far might have been nothing but an appetizer. They had dealt with that bat and his kin partly by taking advantage of the situation, and partly because they had run into a weirdo who didn't play by the rules.
In Slaughter City, the King of Slaughter sat on his throne, keeping a real-time eye on the situation along Hell Road. The light screen before him was broadcasting the road's events live.
Seeing Li Pu irrationally prepare a huge stockpile of Bun Bombs in advance to deal with his kin—and then dispatch them with such ease—the King of Slaughter crushed the blood cup in his hand.
He knew Li Pu was outrageous, but he hadn't expected him to be even more outrageous than that.
Not only had he struck first, he'd given the other side no chance to use their skills, unleashing a barrage of attacks and refusing to stop until they were all dead.
He hadn't expected Bibi Dong to have such a fearsome domain skill, either.
Over the years, countless trials had entered Hell Road, only to flee in disarray or even perish along the way.
Even the two geniuses from Clear Sky Sect who had come before had done nothing but run.
But these two trials hadn't fled at all. They'd simply killed whoever stood in their way.
"I should never have let you two attempt Hell Road!"
A cold glint flickered in the King of Slaughter's eyes. Though those deaths had been inevitable on Hell Road, he would never let the slaughter of his Bat Descendants go unanswered.
But Bibi Dong was someone his master had taken an interest in, and Li Pu was the next body he had his eye on. Had they been anyone else, he would have killed them long ago.
For now, he could only let it go.
The King of Slaughter remained composed. "This is only the beginning. The true dangers haven't appeared yet. Even though you were chosen to make it through Hell Road, the trials ahead will still put you through the wringer!"
After resting for a while, the two felt that something was increasingly wrong. They hadn't rested well at all; instead, they felt their stamina steadily draining away. They could only get back to their feet.
"It seems Hell Road really is no simple place. It can not only affect a trial's state of mind, but also steadily drain their stamina!"
"Exactly. Unless you've experienced it yourself, you'd think Hell Road wasn't all that difficult. Even if you're immune to the poison here, you can't avoid losing stamina. There's still a long way ahead, not to mention the obstacles and the central region. They'll drain the body even more. Even if a trial doesn't go mad from the poison, they'll die of exhaustion! Maybe that's what makes this a true Hell Road!"
Bibi Dong continued, "The records at Spirit Hall say that conditions on Hell Road vary wildly, though each attempt is broadly similar. In my view, it depends on whether the King of Slaughter wants the trial to pass Hell Road and obtain Divine Slaughter's Domain."
However, the decision wasn't in the King of Slaughter's hands. It lay with the Rakshasa God. Besides, it was the Rakshasa God who had summoned her here; she had already been selected to obtain Divine Slaughter's Domain.
She looked at Li Pu with concern. "I'm from Spirit Hall, and its influence protects me. The King of Slaughter naturally won't do anything to me. I'm worried about you."
"The King of Slaughter isn't that petty. He even wants to take me as his disciple. He wouldn't go so far as to harm me," Li Pu said with a smile, trying to reassure himself.
"And besides, isn't it better if I'm outstanding? He can't just suppress me. What would he gain from that? Or does he need an obedient puppet?"
"Still, be careful. You're only a child, after all."
As they continued forward, their pace picked up noticeably. They had no idea how far they still had to go, so they figured they might as well hurry.
Suddenly, Li Pu remembered something and took two skateboards out of his Soul Tool.
"I almost forgot about these!"
"You have something like this?"
Bibi Dong could tell what they were for.
"I don't use them much, but they come in handy a lot of the time."
Li Pu set the boards down beneath their feet. The next moment, he simply sat on one, saving a great deal of energy as it slid down a slope so slight it was almost impossible to notice.
Bibi Dong followed his example and slid down too.
An hour later, the air grew hotter and hotter. Gradually, they could make out the dark red flow far below, in the abysses on either side.
The increasingly hot air made breathing uncomfortable, as though their lungs were burning.
Both of them were drenched in sweat, their clothes soaked and clinging to their perfect figures. The dim red glow around them only heightened their allure.
Li Pu glanced back once, then immediately didn't dare look again.
Bibi Dong giggled. "So you're not actually uninterested in women."
"You're different from those other women."
Li Pu silently recited the Heart-Clearing Mantra, keeping his mind clear.
Bibi Dong was very happy inside, but when she remembered that she was no longer pure, she felt a pang of disappointment.
Watching Li Pu's back, her breathing gradually grew heavier, and her gaze turned hazy.
When they reached the next platform and were about to continue onward,
Bibi Dong suddenly sprang up and tackled Li Pu.
Caught off guard by Bibi Dong's sudden move, Li Pu turned, and she pinned him to the ground.
"Bibi Dong, what are you doing?!"
As soon as he shouted, he realized something was wrong with her eyes. She looked as though she'd taken an aphrodisiac and was overcome with desire.
By all rights, this shouldn't have been possible.
Bibi Dong gazed hazily at the boy beneath her and gave him a sweet smile before lowering herself toward him.
The explosive move made Li Pu's eyes widen. He tried to push her away, but he couldn't budge her.
Seeing this, Li Pu roughly guessed what was going on.
If the story of Spirit Hall was written as a rehash of the King Zhou story, then after Bibi Dong came to her senses about Yu Xiaogang, the Rakshasa God might have noticed and decided she needed a new target.
A pawn to make Bibi Dong turn evil again!
And he was obviously that pawn.
"Damn it!"
That trashy stuff was the author's bread and butter. No matter how much the original book tried to present itself as pure romance, it was still steeped in vulgarity!
The Angel and Sea God Nine Trials were only excuses to cover it up. The author had gone to great lengths to concoct a dream sequence: the Angel Nine Trials catered to the tastes of certain depraved male readers, while the Sea God Nine Trials declared that Xiao Wu was reserved for a virgin, appealing to certain female readers who loved pure romance.
It was an incomprehensible plot, killing two birds with one stone by attracting two different kinds of fans while creating some supposedly pure and chaste image!
Now he'd fallen into the role of a pawn to be exploited, too!
Even though his body had reacted on instinct and stiffened, Li Pu still planned to reject Bibi Dong. He even wanted to knock her unconscious.
But the aphrodisiac seemed contagious. It had already affected him.
Little by little, it dragged him under too, until he could no longer control himself.
