After the two reconciled, Li Pu and Bibi Dong continued their lives in the Hell Slaughter Arena. Their number of victories steadily climbed, and reaching a hundred wins was only a matter of time.
Faced with this, some people in Slaughter City could no longer sit still.
Inside the great hall where the King of Slaughter resided.
The King of Slaughter sat on a lofty chair inlaid with blue and purple crystals, the crystals forming the shape of a skull.
A graceful figure stepped out from a shadowy corner, her voice alluring yet light and melodious.
"Great King, at their current pace, the Martial God and Blood Rose will complete a hundred victories in the Hell Slaughter Arena in less than a year."
"I know."
The King of Slaughter took a long drink of fresh Yellow Springs Dew and replied indifferently, as if the matter were of no importance.
"Great King, it has been a long time since any true experts joined Slaughter City. We should win over the Martial God as well. For the past two years, he has been too close to Spirit Hall's Saintess, and I fear this will be bad for Slaughter City."
The Black Veil Girl voiced her thoughts. Compared to the alluring women of Slaughter City, Spirit Hall's Saintess was far more captivating.
"Do you think the Martial God will be attracted to Spirit Hall's Saintess?" the King of Slaughter asked coldly.
The Black Veil Girl shook her head. "I can't tell, but I know their relationship is far from ordinary. More importantly, every God of Slaughter brings a crisis for Slaughter City. And now, two Gods of Slaughter are about to appear."
"Then do you think he can complete a hundred victories and challenge Hell Road? Even make it through Hell?" the King of Slaughter asked again.
The Black Veil Girl replied, "Completing a hundred victories is only a matter of time. But as for Hell Road, though many have been capable of challenging it over the past thousand years, only seven have ever made it through. Perhaps they can get past it, but I recommend keeping the Martial God here. Perhaps one day he could even take your place."
The King of Slaughter nodded. He had watched Li Pu's record over the years. Others were still under protection at the age of six, but Li Pu had fought his way out of it—and even found a way to keep the killing intent from affecting him. He was truly a genius.
At first, the King had merely wanted to see how far a little brat seeking power could go. He had never expected Li Pu to reach this point.
He had begun deliberately grooming Li Pu to become the next King of Slaughter—and the new vessel for his Nine-Headed Bat King.
No one but him knew this. He had not even arranged for anyone to protect Li Pu.
Without his master's orders, he could only continue guarding Slaughter City and wait for his master's heir to arrive. Over the years, he had changed vessels countless times. Nearly every God of Slaughter who had made it through Hell Road eventually returned to Slaughter City because of the Asura God Trial, only to be possessed by him.
"I hope the Martial God doesn't challenge Hell Road. It would be a shame if he failed," the King of Slaughter said indifferently.
"What about Spirit Hall's Saintess?" the Black Veil Girl continued.
"That won't do. We have an agreement with Spirit Hall. Without them, we'd have to find a new partner to supply us with food. Unless she fails the challenge on her own, I can't afford the price. Don't think that just because Soul Skills can't be used here, Spirit Hall is powerless against us. On the contrary, they have the strength to deal with us. If that weren't so, do you think I'd have allowed her to remain here all this time?"
The King of Slaughter did not explain that Bibi Dong was also someone chosen by his other master, and thus was not someone he would target.
The Black Veil Girl suddenly said, "Great King, what if we did this?"
"Put the two of them in the same slaughter match. That way, one of them will surely die..."
Before she could finish, the King of Slaughter reached out and grabbed her by the throat. His voice rang out, icy cold.
"Looks like you didn't listen to a word I just said. You've forgotten Slaughter City's rules of many years, too. Fallen ones with fifty consecutive victories cannot meet in the same slaughter match. Even without the pressure from Spirit Hall, what would Slaughter City's fallen ones think of me?"
The Black Veil Girl trembled violently, her delicate body quaking with terror.
The King of Slaughter opened his gaping maw and sank his teeth into the Black Veil Girl's neck. Before long, he had drained all the blood and flesh from her body, leaving behind only her skin. He tossed it carelessly aside.
Time passed, and Li Pu soon reached his hundredth match. That day, many fallen ones came to watch.
All the fallen ones knew of Li Pu, the legend who had awakened his Martial Soul at six, begun competing in the Hell Slaughter Arena, and reached the age of twelve.
He was Slaughter City's brightest star, the youngest God of Slaughter in history to approach a hundred victories in the Hell Slaughter Arena. If he succeeded, no one in the future would ever match his achievement or break his record.
Even if he lost his final match, no one could challenge his authority!
Unlike the usual days, when fewer than two in ten seats were occupied, today the arena was packed. Everyone had come to witness the Martial God's final survival match.
Though they knew the Martial God was all but certain to win, they had still come to watch.
"Wonderful! They're finally completing their hundred victories. We'll finally be safe," some fallen ones said, so happy they could have wept.
"Yeah, they're finally leaving."
"Come to think of it, has Slaughter City ever had a God of Slaughter this young?"
"No. There's no one as fierce as the Martial God!"
"I remember Slaughter City did have another one. She was only two or three years older than the Martial God, just a little girl wearing a bear pelt. They say it was her Martial Soul. She could've become a God of Slaughter, but in one battle, her claws tore open space and she was sucked inside. No one knows what became of her!"
"Damn, Slaughter City's history really has had someone that ruthless!"
Who could have guessed that such a ruthless figure would end up tearing through space and leaving?
"Whatever the case, we're lucky enough to witness a miracle in Slaughter City's history today!"
The fallen ones cheered, shouting the Martial God's title.
There were other impressive titles, too.
"Martial God!"
"Holy Infant King!"
"Lord Bun!"
Bibi Dong was among them, too.
As his only friend in Slaughter City, and the light that had pulled her back from the brink of total corruption, she naturally cheered for him as well, believing Li Pu could win this final match.
Li Pu stood calmly at the center of the Hell Slaughter Arena's platform, with nine fallen ones forming a near-circle around him.
The other fallen ones stared at the figures across the arena, their hearts burning with rage.
"Damn it, do you really think we're trash?"
"So what? Kill the Martial God, and we'll charge through Hell Road together."
One of the fallen ones said excitedly, unconcerned, and the others chimed in!
Li Pu raised his hand. A bun soared into the sky.
"Heaven and Earth Eternal Treasures!"
