Street Encounter (Part Two)

At Sun Yu's call, all the active members of the Urban Management Squad gathered at Uncle Oli's home. The members assigned to find and notify Lana and Hill reported that they had searched every street and alley but hadn't seen either of them.

"I hope they haven't run into any trouble!"

Sun Yu knew there was no one on this planet who could threaten Lana's safety, but as her younger brother, he couldn't help worrying about her.

Putting aside his concerns for Lana and Hill, Sun Yu looked at the more than thirty people packed into Uncle Oli's living room. Most were adults, both men and women, though a few were young people around Sun Yu's age.

Every one of them gazed at Sun Yu with undisguised admiration, like devoted fans looking at their idol. Their eyes brimmed with barely restrained fervor.

Sun Yu chalked it up to his own charisma.

Without wasting time on small talk, Sun Yu got straight to the point and explained the plan. It was worth noting that everyone in the Urban Management Squad knew Frieza was using Scouters to monitor the Saiyans' every move. So whenever they discussed anything involving internal secrets, they made a point of putting away the Scouters Frieza had distributed.

They knew that Frieza and King Vegeta were destined to fight, and that King Vegeta had no chance of winning. So everyone present agreed with Sun Yu's plan. They only hoped to bring their families along, which Sun Yu naturally agreed to.

Afterward, they discussed the details together. This so-called expedition would set out aboard an Exploration-class Strategic Void Ship, a fairly common military spacecraft in the Frieza Force. Unlike the flying-saucer-shaped ships used by most of the Frieza Force, the Exploration-class Strategic Void Ship was shaped like an inverted cone, with a long, pointed nose and a broad rear section fitted with various engines. These features gave it a much higher cruising speed. But, naturally, the ship had limited interior space and could carry fewer than two thousand people. Aside from the necessary medical bay, most of its interior was taken up by hibernation pods, leaving very little room to move about freely.

In other words, the maximum number of people Sun Yu could take with him this time was [number] people.

Counting the more than thirty members of the Urban Management Squad and their families, Sun Yu still hoped Oli could select more trustworthy people. After all, no one knew whether they would ever get another chance to come back.

So over the next few days, the Urban Management Squad openly claimed they were preparing an expedition to Planet Veblen, while secretly working to screen potential recruits.

Sun Yu and Oli waited until dark, but Lana and Aunt Hill still hadn't returned. It wasn't the first time the mother and daughter had stayed out having fun all day, but Sun Yu had something important to tell them, so he decided to go look for them.

Lana's ki was easy enough to recognize, but with the bustling streets full of people, even Sun Yu couldn't pinpoint her exact location.

As he walked along the crowded shopping street, he was drawn by an elusive fragrance, almost like a song, and before he knew it, he had wandered into a food street. Saiyans were famous throughout the universe for their enormous appetites, so merchants from all over brought local specialties from their planets. This food street, less than a thousand meters long, had delicacies from practically every corner of the Northern Universe. Up ahead was the scorpion-tailed dragon from Planet Pander, a gigantic crocodile from Planet Giant, and even humanoid exoskeleton insects from Planet Bijieda...

Ugh, how could anyone eat those exoskeletal humanoids with faces like dicks? Sun Yu recoiled in disgust. He was a huge foodie, sure, but humanoid creatures did nothing for his appetite. If anything, he found them repulsive.

Seeing the Saiyans up ahead feasting with food and grease all over their mouths, Sun Yu instantly lost his appetite. Just as he was about to leave, he heard an argument break out nearby.

Planet Vegeta had terrible law and order. Its laws followed the principle that if something could be settled with fists, the authorities should stay out of it. Fights and brawls were commonplace. Sun Yu had no time to get involved, so he turned to leave.

"Kael, don't go! Someone's bullying me!"

A familiar voice came from farther down the street. Sun Yu froze mid-step, nearly thinking he'd imagined it. A second later, he came to his senses. The people causing trouble had to be Lana and Hill.

He wasn't worried that Lana might be in danger. Her power was more than enough to handle anyone on the planet. What worried him was that if something unexpected happened, Lana might not be able to keep her strength in check. That would throw a wrench into the plan Sun Yu was about to put into action.

Lana couldn't afford to step in under these circumstances, so the duty of rescuing the damsel in distress naturally fell to Sun Yu. He was incredibly lucky to have run into Lana; otherwise, the consequences would have been unimaginable.

"You little punk, how dare you bully my big sis Lana? I'll beat you so hard your... damn... mother..."

Sun Yu strode into the crowd and immediately spotted Lana, looking thoroughly annoyed, with Aunt Hill clinging to her arm. Following Lana's gaze, he looked at the two people she'd clashed with, and his heart suddenly lurched.

One of them sat on a stool with his legs crossed, idly picking his ear. He had purple skin and a catlike face, looked frail, and wore a bizarre outfit like something a stage actor might wear. Another person stood behind him: tall, with a slender staff in hand and a white pompadour. His handsome face and flawless skin would have made many women jealous.

God of Destruction Beerus! And Whis, his master and attendant! Sun Yu was nearly in tears. Lana, you've really gotten me into a mess! He swallowed nervously and silently prayed, He didn't hear what I just said. He didn't see me. He hasn't noticed me...

"Kid, what was that you said you'd do to my mother?" Beerus blew the earwax off his finger and glanced at Sun Yu nonchalantly.

Just that one glance sent a bone-deep chill through Sun Yu's soul. It had nothing to do with the temperature. It was the deepest fear lurking in everyone's heart.

The crowd suddenly fell silent. Everyone stared curiously at Sun Yu, who had charged in so boldly only to clam up the moment he saw who was there. Lana was baffled, too. She'd sensed Sun Yu nearby and called him over to help her get even. But for some reason, he was standing there like a fool, frozen in place. Lana pinched him hard in the small of his back and said, "You'd better teach this guy a lesson, or you'll be sorry!"
