After the Mist Ninja captured Konoha ninja Rin, they forcibly sealed the Three-Tails inside her, intending to use it to destroy Konoha. However, Rin chose to die by Kakashi's hand in order to protect the village, and the Mist Ninja's plan failed. Later, the Three-Tails was sealed inside the Fourth Mizukage, Yagura. After Yagura's death, it became wild once more. Orochimaru had once attempted to use the boy Yukimaru, who could control the Three-Tails' power, to capture it, but ultimately failed.
