Li snorted coldly. "Honestly, I seriously doubt I can defeat or restrain Ankhseram in a short time. Or are you saying that whatever master of yours can grant me power greater than Ankhseram's?"
Zeref gave a cold laugh. "What do you think I sent you to Ankhseram for?"
Hearing this, Li's expression turned serious. "For what? I truly have no idea. At first, it was to create someone capable of killing you, then it was to tie down Ankhseram so she wouldn't directly destroy this world, and then... You've never told me the truth all along."
Zeref nodded lightly. "That's right. How could the big boss possibly tell the hero the truth before the end? Well, how should I put it now? You're no longer useful. So I don't mind telling you part of the plan—as payment for becoming my new experimental material."
"Oh? You really are confident." Li stared into Zeref's eyes, not believing for a moment that this man would say anything truthful. After all, he was disgusting enough to make anyone sick.
Zeref looked up at the sky and spoke slowly. "Who wouldn't desire true eternity? Ankhseram did grant me the blessing of immortality, but after accepting that blessing, I became like her—I can only exist forever in this world and can never leave it. In other words, when she destroys this world in the future, I will perish alongside her."
Li sneered upon hearing that. "So you're saying that sending me to Ankhseram was actually meant to break the Holy Mark curse on her? You already used that excuse last time. Besides, even an idiot knows it's false. Come on, could you really tell at a glance that I possessed talent in Holy Marks? You're merely a powerful figure, not an omniscient and omnipotent god."
