Background / History
Guo Ziming is the son of Guo Huaili, a leading figure in the Xikou Chamber of Commerce. The Guo Family is among Xikou County's top merchant families, owning automobiles, a textile mill, and considerable local influence. 17 26
Before Fang Shuwen's transformation, the original Fang Shuwen spent two years serving as Guo Ziming's lackey. Guo treated him less as a classmate than as a servant, ordering him to carry bags, run errands, and buy things; he would also kick him when in a bad mood. 17 Fang's dependence on Guo's favor was partly motivated by the possibility of entering Shenghai Martial University as an auditor or study companion through Guo's connections. 9 10
When Fang refused to catch Guo's tossed schoolbag at the school gate, Guo reacted with anger and disbelief. He believed he had sent Fang fifty silver dollars for medical expenses, unaware that Liu Mang had taken the money. 17 Their relationship deteriorated further after Guo challenged Fang at school and underestimated his physical strength. 18 19
Guo later encountered Fang while two ruffians targeted them. His one-bone-crack bodyguards, A-Da and A-Er, were defeated after being blinded with lime, leaving Guo frightened and willing to offer the ruffians money. Fang incapacitated both attackers, then intimidated Guo into arranging for their disappearance. 21 22 This incident made Guo realize that the former “Little Fang” was far more dangerous than his family guards. 22
Appearance
Guo Ziming is a well-dressed, chubby young man with thick eyebrows, a high nose, and defined features. His wealth is reflected in his conspicuous imported clothing and accessories. 17 73
- Often wears tailored Paramount suits, including a gray suit at the entrance assessment. 17
- Carries a gold pen and favors expensive personal items. 17
- Has a pale, plump build. 21 22
- Styles his hair with pomade and has been described as dressing gaudily. 73
Personality
Guo is proud, entitled, and highly conscious of status. He initially expects Fang Shuwen to obey orders automatically and regards his former lackey's independence as an insult. He relies on family wealth, guards, and followers to reinforce his position, while his lackeys frequently flatter his martial progress. 17 20
He is impulsive and easily provoked, particularly when Fang draws Zheng Shulan's attention or refuses his invitations. His jealousy leads him to repeatedly seek a confrontation with Fang, even after witnessing the vast difference in their combat ability. 52 53 89
Despite his arrogance, Guo is not wholly malicious. He becomes frightened when genuine danger exceeds his control, but later brings his guards to rescue Fang and Zheng Shulan from armed attackers. He also attempts to defend Fang when wealthy classmates reject him at a social gathering, indicating a gradual desire to treat him as a friend rather than a subordinate. 22 73 79
