Background / History

When Jiang Chen first awakens after his encounter with an evil spirit, Jiang Sihai checks his pulse and scolds him for recklessly following others into danger. He had once placed high hopes on Jiang Chen’s martial aptitude, but six months of apparent idleness had left him disappointed enough to plan for Jiang Chen to abandon martial arts, learn the family business, and eventually marry. 1

As political pressure mounts on the Jiang Clan, Jiang Sihai agrees to contribute five hundred taels each month toward Jiang Xuan’s cultivation, despite knowing this would leave little money for his own son’s training. He accepts the arrangement because the clan’s survival appears tied to Jiang Xuan’s performance in the Martial Exam. 1
