The Insectoids
"For Kalimdor, attack! 💘☜ 🐨🐤" Even standing beneath the Scarab Wall, Zul'ra could see the flames of the Incendiary Bomb rising on the other side. Looking at the beetle people who were also stunned and looking back at the wall, he raised his Snake Spear and shouted at the more than two thousand soldiers behind him.
"For Kalimdor!" Watching the astonishing cloud of fire erupt from afar, the allied soldiers, aside from the visual impact, couldn't truly grasp its power. However, at Zul'ra's call, they immediately snapped out of their daze and launched an attack on the clearly astonished insectoids.
The Kaldorei's arrows were extremely lethal; the arrows could easily pierce the carapace of the insectoids. The arrowheads were also enchanted by the Druid, imbued with microorganisms that were highly harmful to the insectoids. Under the amplification spells of the Priest and Shaman, the Kaldorei, numbering over a thousand, rained down arrows, actually pushing back the Stinger and wasps that had already crawled out. No, perhaps it should be said that the insectoids had no intention of retaliating.
"What's going on?!" Zul'ra stared wide-eyed at the insectoids being pushed back against the Scarab Wall. Why weren't the insectoids charging straight at them? What was the point of their trap?
"What should we do? Should we rush over?" Priestess Shiloma looked at the insectoids that had retreated behind the wall, her purplish-red face showing a hint of bewilderment, and asked the Trolls beside her.
"No, let's observe first. Let's go down from here. It'll be very dangerous if the insectoids rush out later." Zul'ra quickly shook his head. He felt that his fifteen large Incendiary Bomb might have been a bit too much, but surely not to this extent!
Just as Zul'ra and Shiloma descended from the magic pedestal in a daze, ordering the officers to calm the infantry and not to act rashly, and sending several Hippogryph riders to try to fly over the wall to find the dragon, two mournful cries suddenly came from the other side of the wall. Immediately afterwards, the insectoids that had been pushed back to the other side of the wall began to attack again.
A buzzing sound vibrated in the air, followed by a series of wasp-like insectoids flying out. These insectoids were about the Goblins of goblins, with a pair of thin wings behind them and plump abdomens hanging below them. The finger-thick stingers on the tips of their abdomens and tails were not only poisonous, but could also be shot out like arrows. They flew out in dense swarms, and many soldiers were instantly hit and fell down.
After the wasps attacked, the Stinger that had been suppressed within the Scarab Wall began to surge out again. Among them were also giant black-shelled insectoids. These insectoids could barely be called human because they walked upright and had black cloth covering their crotches. However, their hands were disproportionately sized scorpion pincers. These insectoids were called gladiators.
"Retreat, retreat, signal, three red fireworks!" Zul'ra unleashed a burst of lightning, striking down a swarm of wasp-like insectoids. Watching the coordinated land and air assault on the swarm like a tidal wave, he let out a loud shout. The Sin'dorei mage beside him immediately fired three red fireworks into the sky, the magical fireworks exploding in the air.
Seeing the red fireworks exploding in the sky, the soldiers on the ground did not hesitate to retreat, but the Hippogryph riders and Gryphon Rider in the sky were entangled by a swarm of bees and insects. Several Hippogryph riders landed in the chaos and asked Zul'ra what to do, saying that the dragon and their companions were still on the other side of the wall.
"Aerial Knights, cover! Shiloma, everyone retreat! Aerial Knights, cover the retreat! Don't dawdle!" Zul'ra swung her Snake Spear, shielding the mage beside her from the concentrated barrage of bee stings, then tossed him into the arms of a questioning Hippogryph archer, before urging Shiloma beside her.
Amidst Zul'ra's roar, Shiloma, in the chaos, mounted an archer Hippogryph and took to the sky, while the previously disorganized Hippogryph and Gryphon riders began to cover their retreat.
Zul'ra stood at the back, summoning a massive storm of lightning that pushed the swarm of insects in front of her into a wave. When a gladiator insectoid was a hundred paces away, she leaped backward, covering dozens of meters.
In the desert before the Scarab Wall, the forward positions were completely torn apart by the combined land and air forces of the Qiraji. The front-line troops lost nearly two-thirds of their manpower, and all fifteen dragons were trapped in the Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj. Fortunately, the troops successfully escaped the bites of the insectoids, and the landmines set up by the Goblins along the way helped buy them time.
The remaining thousand or so members of the forward force, wounded and fleeing for several kilometers through the desert, finally retreated to the rear lines. Zul'ra was the last to jump back into position, and Brann, carrying a musket, and Shandris, holding a hardwood bow, immediately rushed over.
"How about it?"
Are you alright?
"I don't need to answer the question of 'how am I'; in short, I can still fight." Zul'ra was quite reckless on the front lines, but facing the dark mass of insectoids behind him, he felt a chill.
"That's good, let's kill to our hearts' content!" Brann, holding his musket, looked at the dark mass of insectoids in the distance and couldn't help but grin and laugh.
"Your musket is really outdated." Zul'ra exhaled and glanced at the real formation he was in, while teasing Brann about the musket in his hand. The musket was very simple, with a trumpet-shaped muzzle and a flintlock mechanism, and looked quite ordinary.
Unlike the hastily prepared front lines, the rear forces were already fully prepared. One hundred and one Dwarves tanks, two thousand Goblins musketeers, more than two thousand Kaldorei archers including fleeing soldiers, and three thousand shield infantry were arrayed in front, followed by squares of human infantry, along with Shaman, Witch Doctor, Priest, and Druid.
"You can't say that. I've been using this gun for years. It was made with magical technology, you know?" Brann was a little displeased with Zul'ra's teasing.
"Really?" Zul'ra looked at the old-fashioned musket in Brann's hand with slight surprise.
"If you don't believe me, let's have a contest and see who kills more," Brann said.
"Okay, don't say I'm bullying you, what I just killed doesn't count." Zul'ra readily agreed to Brann's bet.
"Stop arguing, those insectoids seem to have stopped." Shandris stopped Zul'ra and Brann from bickering; the dark mass of insectoids in the distance had stopped charging towards them.
"They shouldn't be able to get behind us!" Brann said with a hint of worry.
"Probably not. They're forming a battle formation. These insectoids can think, and they can coordinate their land and air attacks." Zul'ra looked at the floating sea of insectoids in the distance and couldn't help but grin. He had thought the insectoids were frightened by the Incendiary Bomb, but it was probably just them trying to lull themselves into a false sense of security.
"Really?" Brann was startled.
"It's true, we've fought these insectoids before, and they definitely use tactics," Shandris affirmed Zul'ra's words.
"Enough talk, everyone to your positions. Go and calm the soldiers down, lest they panic." Zul'ra stopped the conversation. He saw the floating sea of insects in the distance becoming orderly and approaching.
