The most painful thing in the world was dying before you could spend your money. Even more painful was being alive with no money left.

A classic was a classic for a reason. Even after all these years, Hogg still remembered that famous line vividly, and now he knew firsthand just how excruciatingly true it was.

The Imperium's truly good stuff wasn't traded with so-called currency; most things were bartered. But in Hogg's eyes, money was still the only way to measure the value of anything.

After more than ten thousand years of accumulation, the Blacklight had become a treasure trove in every sense of the word. If they emptied the supplies in the Dimensional Warehouse, the Imperium could launch another Crusade with them. Even Hogg himself had no idea how many secret storerooms the Blacklight held.

"Ugh!"

Looking at the Blacklight, now reduced to a skeleton with little else intact, hanging above the Martian shipyards, Hogg felt like dying. He never should have installed that damn self-destruct mechanism. So much for the ultimate romance unique to men—now he didn't even have a ship.

Just like Hogg, every member of Blackwatch looked as if they'd lost their father. The Blacklight held not only the Legion's shared supplies, but their own secret little stashes as well. Now they were right back where they started and had to build up their savings all over again.

If Hogg had still been willing to defect to Chaos before, that was no longer the case. Even if the Warp Entity did a striptease right in front of him, he wouldn't feel the slightest temptation now that the Blacklight had been blown up.
