As a cautious kid who always liked to plan ahead, Hogg certainly wasn't about to charge in like an idiot. Who knew what might be waiting on the other side? If he accidentally stumbled into Old Man Yellow's hook, wouldn't that be a disaster?

To make sure everything went perfectly, the Emperor joined Hogg and Trazyn in making a full-scale copy of the already-prepared experimental array. They took it to the Luna Fortress and deployed a large force there, even bringing over half of the Adeptus Custodes.

Since they couldn't be sure whether time flowed at the same speed on the other side as it did in their world, Hogg planned to send something over for a test before making the trip himself.

As that familiar seven-colored light flickered, a strangely shaped, bulging Servitor of the Adeptus Mechanicus disappeared from atop the array.

Based on their earlier tests, the Servitor needed only twenty minutes to construct a miniature teleportation array. The array's energy would be enough for just one one-way trip.

They'd also stuffed the Servitor full of all kinds of sensors, turning it into something like an artificial satellite with a body. If it made it to the other side, it could collect all sorts of data and bring it back for everyone to examine.

Better safe than sorry. Hogg hadn't been idle these past few days, either. He and the Emperor had repeatedly studied Tylis's memories, but the conclusion they reached was far from encouraging. The other side was in much worse shape than their own.
