"I'm Hogg Menethil, and now I'm going to show you how to survive in some of the most dangerous places in the Galaxy.
"I have to face the challenges of survival. In a place like this, if you don't have the proper survival skills, you won't even last a day.
"I'm currently on Kairos, one of the Imperium's most remote and least-known planets. The slightest slip-up could make our prey escape in an instant. Luckily, we've invited the leader of the Ultramarines, Guilliman, to serve as bait.
"Next, I'll demonstrate how to catch our prey. If I fail, then my assistant Roland will have to make do for today. I hope his protein content is eight times that of beef.
"Finally, welcome to Blackwatch's Galaxy Survival. We'll be right back after the commercial break."
Watching Hogg gesture and gab toward the camera beside him, Roland felt a powerful urge to roast him. If he weren't sure he'd lose, he'd have smashed the camera against Hogg's smug face by now.
"Bro, what the hell are you doing? We're here to rescue someone, not film that damn survival show. And why do you hope my protein content is eight times that of beef? So if we don't catch any prey, I'm the backup food?"
The retort came smoothly. Roland no longer looked like the extreme introvert he'd been before; he was already starting to qualify as the group's straight man.
"Shh! Quiet, quiet." Hogg narrowed his eyes and pressed a hand down on Roland's catlike head, signaling him to lower his voice and not startle Sera. He made no mention of his own ridiculous singing and yelling just moments ago.
Parting the grass, two pairs of eyes peered out from the shadows, watching the ruined figure at the edge of the trap.
