The people of Cadia had fought in more than fifty large-scale wars throughout history. The rights and wrongs of them all were difficult to untangle, but historians had all noted that this ancient battlefield had determined the rise and fall of countless dynasties. That was why, since ancient times, people had spoken of claiming the Galaxy's throne.
Its strategic importance was plain to see. Cadia sat at the crossroads of two Segmentums, with Segmentum Obscurus to the north and the Solar Segmentum to the south. It was the Imperium of Man's first line of defense against the Eye of Terror.
Speaking of the Eye of Terror, Hogg couldn't help thinking of the bizarre worlds near Cadia. First there was Ullanor, then Vigilance and Moledaka. Expand the area a little further, and you could even include Caliban, the Lion's homeworld, which had already been blown to pieces.
Starting from the heart of the Eye of Terror, every world in this subsector was a household name across the Galaxy. Compared to them, even Nostramo had once seemed downright friendly.
There was one thing worth noting, though: this subsector also included Necromunda, the World Eaters' current recruitment world. In other words, no matter how things turned out, the World Eaters would have to find themselves a new home again.
With the Chaos Gods' avatars gone, Hogg was sure it wouldn't be long before he saw his good brother Vashtorr the Half-Immortal again. The thought of having a good brother by his side when he set out eased his faint sorrow at once.
But the Chaos Gods were gone, and there was still a long road ahead. Since this was an open-book exam, they had to be thoroughly prepared. In particular, the Imperium's people around Cadia needed to be evacuated in advance.
Hogg didn't
