A man in a black robe stood bare-handed amid the surrounding Aeldari, as leisurely as if he had come out for a picnic. The Aeldari around him watched him as though facing a mortal enemy, and Tamari thought the looks on their faces seemed to mix fear with hatred.
"Not going to try attacking me?" There was laughter in the man's voice. "Your will to fight is far too weak."
With that, he raised his hand, and a pool of blood on the ground floated up, turning into a round projectile that shot out violently. It struck an Aeldari's head with perfect precision—or, more accurately, smashed its way straight in.
That was where the muffled thud had come from.
The Aeldari's corpse collapsed in an utterly wretched state, blood drifting beside the man, and Tamari finally understood why he could act so relaxed. After the initial shock passed, he had already grown excited, but he still did not let down his guard.
