Background / History
Chen Jing was an ordinary rickshaw puller until Yan Peng, a Black Crow Sect disciple, severely injured and left him for dead over a trivial incident. Upon awakening, he recovered memories of a previous life and discovered the Exemption Bead within his consciousness. The artifact could remove the costs of cultivation techniques, giving him a path out of the powerlessness that had nearly killed him. He resolved to become strong enough to avenge himself and ensure that neither he nor his family would again be preyed upon 1.
With financial support from his father, Chen Sanwu, and his sisters, Chen Chunmiao and Chen Chunhe, he sought martial training. He was rejected by the Eight Desolations Academy because of his rickshaw-puller background, but Fei Feng accepted him into the River-Breaking Martial Hall on a three-month trial 2 3 4. Unable to make sufficient progress through orthodox training alone, Chen Jing bought the forbidden Five Harms Technique at the Ghost Market and used the Exemption Bead to retain its accelerated cultivation benefits without its usual crippling cost 7 9.
His rapid breakthroughs elevated his standing in Red Rock County. He became an official disciple, accepted work with Zhuang Tao’s Beast-Hunting Squad, took control of the transport firm after confronting the Blue Scarf Gang, and appointed Chen Sanwu and Old Man Lin to manage it 14 17 42 48. As the Liu Family’s use of Longevity Blessing Paste and Soul-Absorbing Grass threatened the county, Chen Jing joined Zhuang Tao’s alliance against the Inner City’s Three Families 60 61.
After reaching the Third Blood Realm, Chen Jing’s growth drew Fei Feng’s full recognition. He received the Raging Wave Fist and Blood-Replenishing Pills, then began pursuing greater strength through increasingly dangerous cultivation methods 75 76. He later entered Canglan Sect, won his Inner Sect assessment, joined Lei Lie’s Red Sun Hall, and cultivated the Great Sun Vajra Body 93 94 96.
Following his contributions during the mission to Dragonfall Abyss, Canglan Sect elevated Chen Jing to Chief True Disciple. The position grants him access to the top floor of the Scripture Repository and permits him to meet sect elders without bowing 118.
Appearance
Chen Jing began as a frail, underfed laborer, but martial cultivation rapidly transformed him into a tall, broad-shouldered young man with dense, explosive musculature 17 75.
- His body developed a restrained bronze sheen after forming Bronze Bones, with toughness likened to ox hide beneath the skin 91.
- After refining the Blood-Sha Bead, his physical presence became heavy and oppressive enough to make others struggle for breath 109.
- He can conceal this aura completely, appearing calm and harmless despite his strength 91 118.
- At the Meridian-Opening threshold, his skin became smooth and jade-like while concealing immense explosive force 118.
Personality
Chen Jing is intensely driven by his refusal to be helpless again. Yan Peng’s assault and his memories of a previous life gave him a lasting fear of being treated as disposable, which he channels into relentless cultivation and a long-term pursuit of revenge 1 7.
He is cautious and pragmatic rather than impulsively violent. Before entering the Ghost Market, he prepared lime for blinding attackers and wooden boards against concealed projectiles; when offered suspicious Longevity Blessing Paste, he hid it rather than consume it 7 62. He evaluates techniques by their practical results and is willing to use forbidden arts where orthodox methods cannot meet his needs 29 47 96.
His ambition is balanced by loyalty to his family and allies. He gives money to his sisters, protects Chen Sanwu’s interests, helps former laborers at the transport firm, and joins Zhuang Tao despite understanding the danger of opposing the Three Families 17 40 48 61. Against enemies who threaten those he protects, he is ruthless and decisive 40 81 123.
Abilities & Skills
Exemption Bead
A mysterious bead housed in Chen Jing’s consciousness that removes the harmful cost of cultivation techniques while preserving their benefits 1.
- Allows him to cultivate dangerous or forbidden techniques without their normal permanent penalties 9 29 89.
- Can purify corrupt energy, including the murderous resentment within the Blood-Sha Bead 109.
- Requires accumulated energy, which Chen Jing replenishes through medicinal resources, exotic-beast meat, and essence blood 48 66.
- Its protection is not always absolute; repeated use of the Essence Blood Body-Covering Technique still severely exhausted Chen Jing’s essence blood 79.
River-Breaking Fist and Raging Wave Fist
Chen Jing’s foundational combat art is River-Breaking Fist, whose Blood Creek, Blood River, and Blood River-Sea stages correspond to the First, Second, and Third Blood realms 5.
- Uses condensed blood and qi to produce increasingly destructive fist force; Blood River strikes can penetrate marrow, while Blood River-Sea force can shatter stone 5.
- Chen Jing’s Third Blood River-Sea fist force defeated Pu Shaojie in a single exchange 76.
- Fei Feng personally passed on the advanced Raging Wave Fist after recognizing Chen Jing’s Third Blood breakthrough 76.
- He used Raging Wave Fist, Bronze Bone defense, and adaptable tactics to win Group D of the Inner Sect assessment 94.
Forbidden Blood-Qi Techniques
Chen Jing supplements orthodox martial arts with dangerous techniques whose costs are mitigated by the Exemption Bead.
- Five Harms Technique — Increases the rate of blood-and-qi condensation fivefold and can multiply combat power in a burst; its enhancement became less useful as Chen Jing’s realm rose 7 21 47.
- Burning Pulse Breakthrough Technique — Burns meridian potential to force breakthroughs; ordinarily causes permanent loss of future potential 29.
- Soul-Devouring Technique — Deepens his blood and qi and lets him emit the sinister aura associated with the Beast God Sect, enabling infiltration and deception 54 81.
- Limit-Breaking Technique — Reverses meridians to awaken dormant potential and greatly increase power. Under the Exemption Bead, Chen Jing raised his blood and qi by at least three times without the normal crippling backlash 79 80.
- Seven-Sha Blood-Burning Technique — Converts the violent vitality of consumed exotic-beast meat into usable fuel, allowing prolonged, extreme training 104.
Mobility and Defensive Arts
- Bone-Humming Swift-Travel Technique — A movement art that circulates blood and qi through the legs, produces faint bone-humming, and allows silent, afterimage-like movement. Chen Jing mastered it shortly after acquiring it 47 48 54.
- Essence Blood Body-Covering Technique — Forms a protective blood-energy covering at the cost of essence blood; Chen Jing used it repeatedly while fighting Liu Meng 66 79.
- Great Sun Vajra Body — Red Sun Hall’s body-tempering inheritance. It strengthens Chen Jing’s physical foundation and grants immunity to Poison Young Master’s Bone-Eroding Soul-Dissolving Mist 96 114.
- Beast Bone Vein-Casting Technique — Reforges and strengthens his meridians to withstand greater blood-and-qi output. Its usual consequence is progressive stiffness and loss of dexterity, which the Exemption Bead reverses 108.
Spearmanship
Chen Jing wields the heavy Thunder-Slaying spear alongside the Mountain-Suppressing Wind-Thunder Spear technique 104.
- Mastered the technique’s Third Blood level after seven days of seclusion and refining an entire vat of Golden Scale Dragon Fish essence 104.
- Uses the Collapse Technique for overwhelming, explosive strikes 114.
- Used the Intercept Formula to block Ba Shan’s Mountain-Shaker sledgehammers 115.
- His raw power can injure his own internal organs through recoil, exposing a weakness in his otherwise exceptional body cultivation 118 119.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Thunder-Slaying — A heavy black-iron spear chosen for the Mountain-Suppressing Wind-Thunder Spear technique 104.
- Firearm — Carried at his waist during his investigation of the Liu Family’s Cold Mountain site 82.
- Three-Eyed White Snake leather armor — Protective armor provided by Zhuang Tao; ordinary blades cannot pierce it 49.
- Class-B Offering Token — Reward from Red Sun Hall that permits Chen Jing to collect valuable Dragonblood Beast Meat 109.
- Exemption Bead — The artifact that enables his cost-free cultivation of otherwise ruinous techniques 1.
Relationships
- Chen Sanwu — Father. Funded Chen Jing’s first attempt to learn martial arts, continued supporting his training, and later jointly managed the transport firm with Old Man Lin 2 6 48.
- Chen Chunmiao — Second sister. Secretly provided Blood Recovery Powder after Yan Peng’s attack and remains closely involved in the family’s affairs 3 73.
- Chen Chunhe — Eldest sister. Financially supported his martial journey and later received part of Chen Jing’s earnings 3 19.
- Zhuang Tao — Senior brother, close friend, employer, and political ally. Guided Chen Jing during his early training, supplied cultivation resources, and recruited him into the alliance against the Three Families 5 15 61.
- Fei Feng — River-Breaking Martial Hall master. Initially tested Chen Jing as a trial disciple, then recognized his exceptional progress and taught him the Raging Wave Fist 4 76.
- Lei Lie — Master of Red Sun Hall. Accepted Chen Jing into the hall and passed down the Great Sun Vajra Body 96.
- Hong Shan — Red Sun Hall senior brother. Guides Chen Jing within the Inner Sect and remains concerned by the speed and danger of his cultivation 96 109.
- Yan Peng — Black Crow Sect disciple and Chen Jing’s primary enemy. Yan Peng’s attack nearly killed Chen Jing and became the catalyst for his entire martial path 1 7.
- Pu Shaojie — Fellow River-Breaking disciple and rival. His resentment grew as Chen Jing surpassed him, culminating in a one-punch defeat 38 76.
- Doudou — A Crimson Flame Tiger subdued during Chen Jing’s time in the Spirit Beast Garden; Chen Jing can command it directly 93.
