Background / History

Chen Jing was an ordinary rickshaw puller until Yan Peng, a Black Crow Sect disciple, severely injured and left him for dead over a trivial incident. Upon awakening, he recovered memories of a previous life and discovered the Exemption Bead within his consciousness. The artifact could remove the costs of cultivation techniques, giving him a path out of the powerlessness that had nearly killed him. He resolved to become strong enough to avenge himself and ensure that neither he nor his family would again be preyed upon 1.

With financial support from his father, Chen Sanwu, and his sisters, Chen Chunmiao and Chen Chunhe, he sought martial training. He was rejected by the Eight Desolations Academy because of his rickshaw-puller background, but Fei Feng accepted him into the River-Breaking Martial Hall on a three-month trial 2 3 4.
