Nature

Blood Qi is the acquired vital force cultivated through martial training, bodily tempering, nourishment, and medicinal resources. Its manifestation is commonly measured in incense-like wisps, strands, pillars, or wicks within the body. 4 34 60

A martial artist’s Blood Qi is closely tied to their physique and innate endowment. Training can increase its quantity and solidity, but injury, insufficient resources, or flaws in one’s constitution can halt progress or even cause regression. 28 79

The quality of Blood Qi can be examined for purity and stability. Chen Cheng’s circulation is described as harmonious, balanced in yin and yang, and free of sinister, impure, or chaotic characteristics. 48

Cultivation System

Blood Qi Condensation

The early martial path requires condensing successive wisps of Blood Qi. Dragon Mountain Martial Hall’s Lower Academy imposes a six-month deadline to cultivate one stick of Blood Qi; failure results in five years of service under a Death-Pledge Contract. 4

Advancing becomes progressively more difficult. Many Outer Hall disciples cannot form a second strand, while entry into the Inner Hall requires a third. 36 A practitioner without sufficient resources may stagnate for months despite extreme training. 28

Divine Treasury Transition

Once Nine-Wick Blood Qi is established, the cultivator can condense their acquired Blood Qi into one place to derive Innate Divine Spirit Qi and catalyze Transformation Force. 177 181

All Blood Qi contains a trace of Innate Divine Spirit Qi because its root lies in the cultivator’s innate endowment. The saying “condensing nine bloods to produce the Innate One” describes the transition from acquired Blood Qi to the Divine Treasury realm. 177

The number and quality of blood-qi wicks strongly influence combat ability. A cultivator with a second wisp holds an overwhelming advantage over one with only a single wisp, while Blood Qi that is unusually solid and profound can allow a martial artist to challenge stronger opponents. 28 159

Blood Qi may be mobilized into blood fragrance or incense-like manifestations during intense combat. At higher stages, it can combine with Dark Force, martial traits, and body-tempering arts to produce power far above an ordinary practitioner of the same realm. 89 134

Concealment and Detection

Blood Qi can expose a martial artist’s realm through its fluctuations, density, and visible wick patterns. 104 158

However, concealment techniques can obscure those signs. Chen Cheng’s Moon Breath of Avici gains the Hidden Vitality trait, which conceals part of his life force and prevents others from easily judging his strength or weakness. 60
