The Second Elder's Test

At that moment, the Second Elder spoke. "Young man, we have only one test for you. It's very simple, but it'll get harder as you go along. Understand?"

Wei Dong replied, "I understand."

The Second Elder said, "Then your test is to plant Puffball Fungus Trees." As he spoke, he handed Wei Dong a shovel.

Wei Dong stared at him in confusion. "Plant trees? Just one?"

The Second Elder said, "Of course not. That would make it far too easy for you. You have to plant a hundred, and they all have to be planted properly. Crooked ones don't count."

Just then, the system announced that a quest had been triggered for the host.

Option One: Refuse to plant Puffball Fungus Trees. Reward: 100 oak seeds.

Option Two: Accept the Second Elder's quest. Reward: the title Tree Planter and a tenfold-gravity chamber.

Option Three: Exceed the quest requirements and plant 1,000 Puffball Fungus Trees. Reward: a Senzu Bean Potted Plant.

Wei Dong paused and asked the system, "What's a Senzu Bean Potted Plant?" The system replied, "It's a plant that produces three Senzu Beans every day." Wei Dong took one look and chose option three without hesitation.

Then he said to the Second Elder, "I'm willing to plant 1,000 Puffball Fungus Trees."

The Second Elder was overjoyed. This wasn't slave labor! He replied, "Of course you can."

Wei Dong regretted it almost immediately. Damn it, how long would it take to plant a thousand trees? And all he could eat every day was leaves. Sometimes he even ate the Puffball Fungus Trees until they died.

There was no food on Namek. The Namekians only drank water, so Wei Dong was so malnourished he could barely believe it. He was as thin as a monkey, and still had to do such exhausting work every day. Worst of all, Namek had three suns, so there was no night, only daytime.

After more than five years of hard work, he finally finished planting all 1,000 Puffball Fungus Trees. By then, that young man had grown into an adult.

Wei Dong's battle power had reached 1,314. Sigh, even that was thanks to the Grand Elder's potential unlocking. Still, it seemed that after he planted 1,000 trees, Namek improved quite a bit, and the Namekians were very grateful to me.

Honestly, Wei Dong felt there was no need to thank him. The system was the one they should really be thanking. If it weren't for the Dragon Balls and the Senzu Bean Potted Plant, I would've been long gone. After all, planting those 1,000 trees had nearly driven me insane. I felt like I was about to turn into a tree myself. All I did every day was plant trees.

Wei Dong had also built himself a house, using Puffball Fungus Trees, of course. The Namekians had originally offered to build one for me out of something like clay, but I said no. Though Wei Dong suspected they might have been reluctant to part with their Puffball Fungus Trees.

After he completed the quest, a few of the elders said he didn't need to take any more tests. But the Elder of Wisdom wanted to test Wei Dong's intelligence, and Wei Dong said, "Let's see if you can outsmart my system."

During the intelligence test, Wei Dong answered every question with ease, leaving the Namekians impressed. There was nothing he could do about it—that was just how good I was.

Now only one Dragon Ball remained, along with the combat test. Although the Namekians didn't like fighting, their requirement was that Wei Dong defeat a twenty-year-old Namekian. It was practically impossible.

The problem was that Wei Dong was only eighteen. As if being eighteen weren't bad enough, why did that Namekian have a battle power of 3,000? How was Wei Dong supposed to beat him? It seemed the Namekians couldn't be underestimated. After all, he couldn't beat that opponent at all.

Still, the system had some benefits.

He could use System Coins to exchange for things.

The problem was, he had to complete quests to get System Coins. The daily sign-in only gave him 0.01.

He had just over three System Coins now, since he'd spent some already. After all, you couldn't get far in this world without spending money.

At that moment, I asked the elders if I could use the Dragon Balls. I told them I only wanted to make two wishes. The elders saw how hard things had been for me, so they agreed.

Then, for the first time in a long while, night fell over Namek. Every Namekian knew that the darkened sky meant Shenron had appeared.

Of course, some of the Namekians had never seen Shenron before, so they hurried back from far away just to see what he looked like.

After Shenron appeared, he asked a Namekian to state the first wish.

Wei Dong immediately made his wish. "I want the fastest, most awesome, super-luxurious, extra-huge spaceship in the universe, equipped with a Gravity Chamber!"

The Namekians were dumbfounded, but one of them still translated his wish. The Namekian felt a jumble of emotions. What in the world was all that?

Shenron heard the wish and said, "Young man, your wish has been granted. A fast spaceship with a Gravity Chamber."

Wei Dong asked, "Shenron, how much gravity can it generate? And how fast is it?"

Then a Namekian beside him translated his words to Shenron without missing a single one.

Shenron replied, "It can generate up to 150 times normal gravity, with automatic adjustment. Its speed is among the fastest in the universe."

Then Shenron asked me for my second wish, and the Namekian translated his words for me.

Wei Dong thought for a long time, but couldn't think of another particularly good wish. After all, Shenron wasn't all-powerful. If he were, Wei Dong could've simply wished to become a Super Saiyan.

Then Wei Dong made his second wish to Shenron: he wanted the Grand Elder to regain his youth.

The Namekian beside him looked surprised and said, "Are you sure? You're a pretty kind person, aren't you?"

Wei Dong confidently told him, "I'm sure."

The Namekian nodded, then told Shenron to restore the Grand Elder's youthful appearance. A beam of light descended from the sky and entered the Grand Elder's home.
