"What's going on? Why hasn't Frieza come yet?" A handsome young man with a melancholy air muttered to himself north of West City and west of Central City.
"Forget it. I'm not waiting any longer. I'll go to Mr. Goku's house and see what's going on."
The boy stood up. He wore a purple jacket bearing the Capsule Corp emblem over a black tank top, and a one-handed sword—the weapon he carried on his back. Then he flew southeast.
The boy was none other than Trunks, who had traveled from the future to the past in the Time Machine.
Trunks soon arrived at Goku's house, where he spotted Gohan and Piccolo training outside.
"Mr. Piccolo, Gohan... hello. Are you... training?" Trunks had nearly blurted out "Big Brother Gohan."
"Hm? Who are you? Do we know each other?" Piccolo stopped training with Gohan when he heard him.
"I'll explain that later. Is Mr. Sun Wukong home?"
"Huh? Are you one of Dad's friends? Dad's training in the Gravity Chamber."
"Something like that. Um, Gohan, could you call Mr. Wukong out?"
A little while later, Goku came out.
"My friend? Who's this?"
"Goku, you really don't know him? He said he came to see you. Not only that, he also knows Gohan and me," Piccolo asked, puzzled.
"Mr. Sun Wukong, there's something I need to tell you. Could you come over there with me?" Trunks got straight to the point.
"Huh? Can't you tell me in front of Gohan and Piccolo?"
"Um, I'm sorry, but I can only tell you."
"Okay."
The two of them walked some distance away.
"First, answer one question. Can you become a Super Saiyan through your own will?" Trunks asked.
"Sure. Does that have something to do with what you want to tell me?"
"Could you show me right here? Please..."
"Sure." Goku gave a low shout and instantly transformed into a Super Saiyan.
"Just as I thought. You're just like me when I become a Super Saiyan."
"Huh? You're saying you're a Super Saiyan too?" Goku was startled.
"That's right." Trunks instantly transformed into a Super Saiyan as well, and he really did look just like Goku.
At that moment, Vegeta was training in West City when he suddenly sensed a powerful, unfamiliar ki. "What's going on with this ki? Is Kakarot fighting someone?"
In the south, at Kame House.
"Yamcha, there's a powerful ki that feels unusual. Let's go check it out."
Krillin and Yamcha hurried toward Goku's house.
"I see. You really are a Super Saiyan, just like me, Vegeta, and Big Brother Wumian." Goku had been taken aback at first, but he soon settled down.
"You mean Vegeta and another person are Super Saiyans too?" Now it was Trunks's turn to be shocked.
"Yeah. Is there a problem?"
"That's strange. Has history completely changed?"
"History? What history?"
"Forgive me." Trunks suddenly drew the sword from his back and slashed at Goku.
"..." Goku didn't panic at all. He neither dodged nor flinched.
"Why aren't you dodging?"
"You don't have any killing intent. I knew you'd stop," Goku said with a confident smile.
"Oh... This time I won't hold back. Be careful!"
Trunks swung his sword again and again, but Goku blocked every strike with a single finger.
"You live up to your reputation. You're even stronger than I imagined." Trunks sheathed his sword with a click and praised him.
"Only 160 million in battle power. Future Trunks is a little too green—no wonder he couldn't beat the Androids," Sun Wumian thought to himself. He had already figured out who had arrived when he sensed that ki.
Trunks's Super Saiyan form faded, and he returned to normal. Then he told Goku where he had come from.
"You're Vegeta's son? I never would've guessed. Looking closely, though, you do look a lot like him."
"I didn't come here in the Time Machine to tell you that. There's something important you absolutely need to know..." Trunks went on to tell him how the Androids had turned the future into Hell.
"The Red Ribbon Army? Androids? Wait, you said there were two of them... What happened to your allies?"
"Twenty years from now, I'll be the only warrior left..."
"Uh..." Piccolo, who had been eavesdropping, went pale.
"In a battle three years from now, my father, Mr. Krillin, Yamcha, Tien Shinhan, Chiaotzu, and Piccolo will all be killed. Big Brother Gohan, who survives, will also die four years later..."
"They're too strong. They're just too strong!" Trunks clenched his fists and shouted.
"Hold on, what about me? Why didn't you mention me? Was I killed too?"
"No. You never fought them. You died of heart disease—a serious illness that even a Super Saiyan couldn't overcome..."
"Damn it. I wanted to fight them too..." Sun Wukong said, frustrated.
"It's a shame you can't fight them, but aren't you afraid?" Trunks hadn't expected Goku to think that way.
"I guess I'm scared too, but I really want to see how strong they are."
"Big Brother Gohan was right. You really are a true Saiyan warrior. I admire you. Take this as soon as your symptoms appear." Trunks suddenly pulled out a bottle of medicine and handed it to Goku.
"What's this?"
"This medicine will save your life. It's a cure for the heart disease that will appear twenty years from now."
"Really? That's great! You should've told me sooner!"
"Actually, this will change history. But when it comes to that future... I believe you'll find a way. My mother worked very hard to build the Time Machine for this very reason..."
"Um... Do I know your mother?"
"Yes, very well..."
"If she can build a Time Machine, could it be Bulma?..." Goku couldn't believe his own guess. Sweat beaded on his forehead.
"That's right. You guessed correctly."
"Whoa!" Goku leaped in shock. "That's a real surprise. I thought she'd marry Yamcha."
"I heard Mr. Yamcha was unfaithful, so she broke up with him in a fit of anger. Then she saw how lonely my father was, and... well, that's how it happened. But they never got married."
"Ah... I don't get it..." Goku couldn't help glancing at Vegeta, still feeling surprised.
"My father died before I was old enough to understand anything. This is the first time I've seen him." Trunks looked over at Vegeta too and smiled. "You have to keep this secret. I'm afraid telling them could affect their relationship..."
"I understand. Thank your mother for me."
"Okay. Meeting you has given me hope. Well, goodbye."
"I hope we can change the future. Will we see each other again?"
"I don't know. If I'm still alive, I'll definitely come help you in three years." After saying that, Trunks soon returned in the Time Machine.
"This is a problem. How should I tell them?" Goku looked at everyone, who had gathered by then, and didn't know what to do.
"Tell us. Those things are important to us!" Piccolo said.
"Huh? You heard everything?"
"Of course. My hearing is different from yours. If you can't bring yourself to say it, I'll tell them. Don't worry. I won't mention anything that might affect that guy's existence."
Leaving out anything about Trunks, Piccolo explained what had happened. Everyone looked astonished.
Only Vegeta and Sun Wumian remained completely calm.
"Hmph. Androids? I could beat them in a minute." Vegeta stood with his arms crossed, putting on airs.
