The sounds of fighting rang out!
With a cry of pain, Gaino was blasted away by someone's Spirit Bomb.
Damn King Vegeta! Didn't he say this mission would be easy? How could the natives here be so powerful?
Gaino dodged the native's attacks as he tried to think of a way out.
Gaino was actually feeling pretty frustrated. Other people got cheat abilities or systems when they crossed over, but he had gotten nothing. What was more, when he was born, his battle power had been zero. Even King Vegeta, ruler of the Saiyans, had been shocked.
Saiyans normally had at least a little battle power at birth, but Gaino hadn't had the slightest bit. Even the lowest-ranked Low-Class Warriors had some battle power.
King Vegeta looked at Gaino in the incubation tank and furrowed his brow. Then he said to the attendants in the nursery, "Throw away this Saiyan who isn't even fit to be a Low-Class Warrior!"
Things like this happened all the time on Planet Vegeta. Any low-class warrior without parents would be cruelly discarded. In the eyes of some Saiyans, family bonds were nothing but an illusion.
Just as the nursery attendants were about to throw little Gaino away, someone entered the room and said, "My king, please let me take little Gaino with me. I'm willing to raise him."
King Vegeta looked at the person who had come to see him and said,
"Bum, think this through. You're an elite warrior. Why would you want to raise someone who can't even qualify as a Low-Class Warrior?"
Bum replied, "My king, I might not have made it back if not for Gaino's parents. They gave us another chance to live. I can't stand by and do nothing while little Gaino is thrown away."
Gaino's parents had gone on a mission with Bum and the others. Of the five who left, only three returned. At a critical moment, Gaino's parents had sacrificed themselves to save Bum and the others.
King Vegeta saw Bum's expression and knew he had made up his mind.
King Vegeta told Bum, "All right. Since you've made up your mind, take Gaino with you."
Bum was delighted when King Vegeta agreed. He said, "Thank you, my king."
King Vegeta waved his hand. Bum went to Gaino's incubation tank, hoisted it onto his shoulder, and carried it out of the nursery.
When Bum arrived home, his wife was already waiting at the door. Her name was Tasha.
Tasha said, "You brought Gaino home. That's wonderful."
Bum said, "The king agreed to my request."
Bum and Tasha went inside together. He set the incubation tank he was carrying beside another, smaller tank. Inside it was their daughter, Laiya.
Five years passed in the blink of an eye. In the training room, a young boy repeatedly threw punches and kicks. That boy was little Gaino.
Sweat soaked Gaino's body. He stopped moving, slowly closed his eyes, and focused on what was happening inside him.
Then Gaino punched the ground, head bowed, and shouted, "Why? Why can't I feel the ki inside me? Why? Why does everyone else who crossed over get a cheat ability, while I have nothing?"
It had been five whole years. He had trained constantly, and his body had grown stronger and stronger, but he still couldn't sense any ki inside him.
Gaino was still grumbling when Laiya came in. Seeing him, she knew her big brother Gaino still hadn't sensed any ki.
Laiya came over and said, "Big Brother Gaino, I believe you'll be able to sense ki someday."
Gaino looked up. When he saw Laiya, his face broke into his trademark smile. "It's all right, Laiya. I'm used to it. Oh, right—what did you need?"
Laiya said, "Dad wants you to come home!"
"All right, I know." Gaino immediately got up, took Laiya by the hand, and headed home.
When he got home, Gaino saw the expressions on Bum and Tasha's faces and knew something was going on.
Gaino called out, "Dad, Mom, you wanted to see me?"
When Bum saw Gaino return, he said to Tasha, "Tasha, you tell him."
Gaino said, "Dad, Mom, just tell me what's going on."
Bum said, "The king wants to see you."
"King Vegeta wants to see me? What for?"
Bum said, "You're five years old now, Gaino. Saiyans go on missions when they turn five, so the king probably wants you to go on one."
"I see," Gaino said. He turned to Tasha and Bum. "It's all right, Dad, Mom. I'll go see the king now."
Gaino traveled by spaceship to this planet, but its natives weren't weaklings with no battle power. On the contrary, they were incredibly strong compared to him.
Explosions rang out again and again. Gaino kept dodging the Ki Blasts.
As he dodged, Gaino said, "You're being way too rough! I came here on a mission, but I hadn't even attacked you before you started coming after me."
The native said, "You damn Saiyan! I'm going to destroy you!"
Nearly everyone in the universe knew the Saiyans were extremely brutal. They were known as a warrior race and served Frieza, the emperor of the universe.
In truth, Frieza kept the Saiyans under his control. Put simply, they were Frieza's thugs, and he could order them around as he pleased.
Gaino was blasted away again by a Ki Blast. He said furiously, "If only I could sense ki! If I could, you wouldn't be acting so arrogant!"
The native fired several more Ki Blasts in quick succession. Under the relentless bombardment, Gaino was already coughing up blood.
What rotten luck. Looks like I'm done for this time. Another massive Ki Blast hit Gaino, and he spat out a large mouthful of blood.
Looks like I won't make it out of this alive today.
A gigantic Ki Blast hurtled toward him. Gaino closed his eyes.
Just then, a voice sounded. "The host is in mortal danger. System activating automatically."
Ding! Scanning the host's body. The host's body has met the requirements.
Reward: Ancient Saiyan Bloodline. Gaino felt an extraordinarily powerful force flow into his body.
With a rumble, smoke billowed as the Ki Blast blasted a huge crater into the ground. The native laughed. "Hahahahaha! I finally destroyed that wretched Saiyan!"
The smoke cleared, and a figure slowly rose into the air. It was Gaino. He could sense ki now. He felt as though he could blow up the entire planet with one punch.
Gaino looked at the native. I'll use you to test the power of the Ancient Saiyan Bloodline. He held out his palm, and an energy sphere appeared in his hand.
The energy sphere shot out at incredible speed. The native was obliterated, reduced to dust scattered across the planet.
