Slug was extremely excited. He was a warmonger at heart, consumed by thoughts of conquest, which was why he was so wicked. Now that Gaino had his back, he could finally cut loose and take on Frieza.
Gaino had just rewarded him with a Spirit Fruit, too. He believed that after eating it, his strength would improve even further.
"Slug, how long will it take to gather your legion?" Gaino asked.
"Reporting to you, Lord Gaino. It will take three days to gather all the legion's members," Slug replied.
"Good. I'll give you three days. Gather the members of the Saiyan Legion."
"Yes, Slug obeys."
"Go ahead and eat the Spirit Fruit first. It'll do you a great deal of good."
"Of course, Lord Gaino. Then let's wait for the legion to assemble on Planet Peida!"
"Mm, that works."
Slug shouted, "Everyone, board the ships! We're heading to Planet Peida to regroup. Rest up and conserve your strength over the next few days. Once the legion has assembled, we'll follow Lord Gaino into battle across the universe!"
"Yeah!" Everyone was thrilled by the news. It seemed that Slug's men were just like the Saiyans: warmongers who loved conquest.
"Let's get on board!" Laiya and the others nodded.
Gaino and the others boarded the ship. Gaino turned to Laiya, Broly, and Bardock. "The three of you can eat your Spirit Fruits now. Remember, don't overdo it. Take only as much as you can handle."
Slug had said the Spirit Fruit put tremendous strain on the soul. Eating too many could overwhelm the mind and shatter the spirit.
"Mm, I understand, Brother Gaino."
Laiya, Broly, and Bardock each took three Spirit Fruits and went to eat them.
Gaino looked at the Spirit Fruits Laiya and the others had left in front of him. He picked one up, walked over to Laika, and said, "Laika, this Spirit Fruit is for you."
"A Spirit Fruit? What is it?" Laika asked, bewildered.
"It can increase your mental strength and give you a foundation of combat power."
"Um, Lord Gaino, could I use this Spirit Fruit for research?"
"Of course. That's your choice. But this one is for you." As he spoke, another Spirit Fruit appeared in Gaino's hand. "This one is for you to eat."
"I told you, this Spirit Fruit is for you to eat. You can have it now. Set the ship to autopilot."
"Understood, Lord Gaino. I'll eat the Spirit Fruit right away."
A while later, Laiya and the other two returned to Gaino. He could tell that all three of their mental strengths had increased.
"Brother Gaino, after I ate the Spirit Fruit, my mind felt clear. I think I can control the ki in my body better now," Broly said.
"Yeah, it's so refreshing! My strength has clearly increased after eating the Spirit Fruit, but this power feels too weak. I can feel it isn't truly my own," Laiya said.
"I feel the same," Bardock added.
Gaino said, "After eating a Spirit Fruit, you need to train and turn that unsteady combat power into your own."
"You three, come with me. We're going to train in the Gravity Chamber."
Time passed as they trained. Three days later, the door to the Gravity Chamber opened, and Gaino and the others came out.
Everyone except Gaino was covered in dust.
Gaino let out a deep breath. "Haa, that unsteady feeling is finally gone. That feels great!"
"Brother Gaino, you're a monster! Even when the three of us attacked you together, you handled us with ease—and you beat us all up. Even my Super Saiyan 2 simulated form combined with Bardock's Super Saiyan 1 simulated form couldn't beat you."
Laiya had indeed made good progress. After eating the Spirit Fruit and training, she could now transform into the simulated form of a Super Saiyan 2. But even with that strength, she still couldn't defeat Gaino.
"Laiya, it looks like you're close to transforming into a Super Saiyan 2. I reckon you'll be able to do it after we conquer a planet this time."
"I think so too," Laiya said.
"King, I feel like I'll be able to transform into a Super Saiyan after this conquest, too," Bardock said.
"Mm, I can feel it in your ki, too. Keep working hard."
"I will, King."
"You can all transform into Super Saiyans, but I still can't. This is so frustrating!"
Broly said angrily.
Gaino walked up to Broly and said, "Broly, your Super Saiyan transformation is a special case. You're the Super Saiyan who appears once every thousand years—the Legendary Super Saiyan."
"If you succeed in transforming, I reckon Laiya and Bardock together still won't be able to beat you."
"Really, Brother Gaino?"
"That's right. The Legendary Super Saiyan appears only once every thousand years!"
"That's why your transformation won't come easily."
"Don't rush. Training takes patience. You can't achieve everything overnight."
"As long as your foundation is solid, your Super Saiyan transformation will happen naturally."
"Mm, I believe you, Brother Gaino."
Just then, Laika came over to Gaino and said, "King, Slug is outside the ship and wants to see you."
"Looks like the Saiyan Legion has finished assembling. Come on, let's go out."
Laiya and the others nodded.
Gaino and the others flew out of the spaceship. When Slug saw Gaino emerge, he hurried over and bowed. "Lord Gaino, the Saiyan Legion has assembled. Shall we march toward the North Galaxy?"
Gaino looked at the vast crowd and said to Slug, "It seems you really are the overlord of the South Galaxy. I didn't realize you had such a powerful legion at your disposal."
"You flatter me, Lord Gaino."
"Good. The Saiyan Legion will march toward the North Galaxy!"
Just as he finished speaking, someone ran in. "Reporting, Lord Gaino! A group of Space Pirates' ships is heading this way!"
"Space Pirates?" Gaino turned to Slug. "Aren't you the overlord of the South Galaxy? Why aren't these Space Pirates steering clear of your ships? Why are they coming this way?"
"Um, Lord Gaino, there are some Space Pirates in the four major galaxies—the eastern, southern, western, and northern—whose strength surpasses that of us so-called galactic overlords."
"Oh, is that so? Come on, let's see who dares to approach our spaceship."
Gaino floated into the air and flew toward the Space Pirates' ships.
Laiya and the others followed close behind.
