However, instead of having breakfast at the manor with the Witch, Laura Croft, and the others, she had followed the Emperor aboard the Pegasus-class Assault Transport early in the morning. While England was still steeped in gray-white dawn light, they departed the manor to begin new work, and she ate a limited-edition maintenance crew meal aboard the Pegasus Type Assault Transport. The peaceful sleep of the previous night had not relaxed her. She knew what the ritual she had undergone was for—the thirteen candles surrounding her bed had gone out at some point. When she woke in the morning and drew back the curtains, the faint sunlight immediately caused the black wax tears on the floor, which had melted and solidified again, to begin evaporating in defiance of the material properties of the Material Universe. Anyone could guess that the ritual circle formed by those candles had shielded her from nightmares, allowing her a night
