Precise psychological diagnosis had been the Emperor's original purpose in establishing the hospital and merging Kamar-Taj's medical department into it. Once the psychological reports had been completed by medical staff at Kamar-Taj and the City of Immortals, they were delivered to the Emperor, then passed through the Praetorian Guard into Bayonetta and Jeanne's hands. Those papers had even arrived at the manor before the Emperor did.
The Emperor intended to turn the manor into a sanatorium where Laura Croft could recover mentally, much like the tuberculosis sanatoriums of the last century. They could not completely cure the illness, only ease its symptoms, because no ordinary person could see the dead from their own memories and remain mentally sound. Although this was not Laura Croft's first encounter with the supernatural—indeed, every one of her adventures had involved supernatural events, and what happened in the library could not even be called dangerous—it was her deepest contact with the Outer Dimensions. Another world had noticed her and begun breathing venomous whispers at her, extending its filthy claws toward her soul.
