Dr. Will hurried through the corridor packed with directional bombs, crossed the catwalk in the Engine Room spinning like a meat grinder, and threw himself at the computer before the massive hyperspace engine. Captain Miller watched as Dr. Will rapidly opened the management software and checked the astonishingly complex operation logs one by one. "What's wrong?" Captain Miller no longer wanted to dwell on Dr. Will's nearly overbearing attitude from over ten minutes ago—though Dr. Will's almost possessed urgency was baffling, nothing mattered more to him than protecting the lives of every crew member. He repeated himself, "What's wrong? Can you fix it?"

"I can." Dr. Will answered with certainty, once again displaying his professionalism, which put Captain Miller slightly at ease. But it was only slight comfort, because the hyperspace engine rising above the Cooling Pool was now slowly rotating, utterly unlike the stillness they had witnessed before. Dr. Will said, "The containment magnetic field is fine. The operational circuitry must have burned out. I can fix it. I need your help, Miller."

Dr. Will pointed at the wall of the spherical Engine Room. The walls, divided into square sections, were the same bronze color as the hyperspace engine and bore strange symbols almost identical to those on its surface. Following Dr. Will's instructions, Captain Miller pressed down on a bronze wall panel near the hyperspace engine's main control computer alongside him. The icy touch made him shudder. Dr. Will panted heavily, almost feverishly forcing his fingernails into the panel before prying it open. A glowing green light leaked from the Maintenance Tunnel, and an ominous feeling once again clouded Captain Miller's mind. It was only the faint reflection of emergency lights within the tunnel illuminating the verdigris PCB boards on either side, yet it made Dr. Will's face
