Agent Coulson quickly found the source of the rumors: the dark-skinned taxi driver.
At first, the driver still tried to resist the investigation, but he soon stammered out a confession.
Based on his description of Salomon, Coulson had no trouble connecting him to the melted crater on the highway outside Salem Town, along with the frequent fires in Colins Town—yes! That was it. The criminal organization collecting Inhumans had started operating again!
And the Inhuman they had dispatched was the teenage boy from Salem with high-temperature abilities! Now, all the clues pointed to Salomon Damonet!
Unfortunately, Agent Coulson did not stay in Colins Town for long. He could only report the matter to his superiors, because something even more important had happened.
Or rather, something more important to the US Government—the famous capitalist, Tony Stark, had gone missing.
Compared with an organization abducting mutant teenagers, a capitalist was more important to the United States. S.H.I.E.L.D. could only shift its attention to Tony Stark.
Meanwhile, Salomon, who had once again narrowly missed Agent Coulson, was currently holed up in a room at Kamar-Taj headquarters, playing games.
He would rest for a few days before rushing off to Europe to continue tracking down the Darkhold.
But the Venerable One said she had an acquaintance in Europe who could help—someone to whom she had currently entrusted some of Kamar-Taj's work fighting Extra-dimensional Beings in Europe.
However, most people in Kamar-Taj did not know of that person, because the Venerable One had deliberately erased their whereabouts from the Planetary Defense System.
The Venerable One had done so entirely because of that person's unusual nature. They were a demon witch in the truest sense, possessing the power to control demons and specializing in hunting angels to feed them.
If some of Kamar-Taj's more stubborn Arcanists learned of this, they would probably be clamoring to kill that person.
But in the Venerable One's eyes, angels and demons alike were Extra-dimensional Beings. No matter which of those invaders died, Kamar-Taj stood to gain.
But weren't angels God's messengers? Could Heaven still be trying to interfere with Earth?
Salomon could not help questioning his own origins. According to the Venerable One, the signs at his birth had been exactly the same as the descent of the Holy Child. Could his appearance here also have been Heaven's doing?
Faced with Salomon's questions, the Sorcerer Supreme patiently answered them one by one.
The Venerable One said, "Angels are not merely God's messengers, Salomon. They are simply beings of the Positive Energy Plane, not messengers belonging exclusively to any deity.
After they are born, they seek out powerful beings of the Positive Energy Plane to serve—the so-called gods, including God.
The angels described in the Bible are merely Positive Energy Plane beings who serve God. But Heaven has an agreement with me: as long as I remain, Heaven cannot enter Earth.
As for those angels invading Earth... they serve another god. As to why the angels belonging to God do not invade Earth, while this god's angels do...
The reason is actually quite simple. This god has fallen into slumber, and no being can represent that god to make a contract with me.
This sleeping god is called Jubileus. It is a name that human voices cannot pronounce, so it can only be called that.
And it was formed from the remnants of a god called Chaos God Echidna after his death.
Chaos God Echidna fell apart at the dawn of humanity. After his death, one portion of his body flew to the Positive Energy Plane, transforming into Jubileus and many angels;
Another portion fell into the Abyss, transforming into a Demon Lord and spawning many demons.
Therefore, the angels serving Jubileus have always wanted to reclaim that other portion of power and awaken the sleeping Jubileus. They believe that once they obtain the other portion of power, Jubileus will awaken and create a new world—of course, that is just their own boastful propaganda. Fanatics are always like that.
Just listen to it. The Living Tribunal would never permit such a thing.
As for why they invade Earth rather than attack the Abyss directly to seize that power, it is entirely because the two most important portions of Chaos God Echidna's power fell into the human world.
One of the portions is possessed by the demon witch I mentioned to you. It is called the 'Left Eye.' It is the power of the part of the body that became the Demon Lord, and it is what those angels seek to reclaim. The other portion is called the 'Right Eye,' the power of the part of the body that became Jubileus."
According to Master Gu Yi, some of those who possessed the Left Eye were called Shadow Witches, while those who possessed the Right Eye were called Lumen Sages.
Before the Venerable One emerged, these two groups called themselves observers of history. They maintained a balance between one another and watched over the world.
But that balance had been broken five hundred years ago. Those with the Left Eye colluded with demons to hunt angels, while those with the Right Eye colluded with angels to hunt demons. They had been at war with one another ever since.
But their final battle was too brutal, lasting nearly a hundred years. In the end, the war concluded with the disappearance of the witches who possessed the Left Eye.
Even so, after the Witch who had vanished for five hundred years reappeared, she still carried out her mission with unwavering determination. The Sage was the same.
Even angels or demons who had smuggled themselves onto Earth and had not been spawned by Chaos God Echidna fell within their hunting grounds. That was also why the Venerable One could tolerate them.
In the Venerable One's account, the organization serving the god called Jubileus in the human world was known as the Ragnar Covenant. Its headquarters were located in a border city in Europe called Wigrid.
The city was controlled by a group called Izawell, and Balder, the president of the Izawell group, was the Lumen Sage who possessed the Right Eye.
The Sorcerer Supreme only needed to preserve the balance between them—not allowing the sleeping Jubileus to awaken, the Demon Lord to be summoned to Earth, or Chaos God Echidna to be resurrected. Then the Witch and the Sage would fight forever while helping Kamar-Taj clear out the demons and angels who had smuggled themselves onto Earth.
Keeping them around could greatly reduce Kamar-Taj's workload.
But now, the Lumen Sage's forces were growing increasingly powerful. To preserve the balance and weaken the other side, the Venerable One had deliberately supported the Witch with the Left Eye and provided her with intelligence on where angels appeared.
But what if things went out of control? Salomon asked curiously.
The Venerable One pointed to the Eye of Agamotto on the table—if it did not work once, they could simply try again. Eventually, it would succeed.
As for where Chaos God Echidna had come from, neither the Venerable One nor the Vishanti had an answer.
The Earth of ancient times had been a chaotic realm of demons, and the few surviving records were vague and unclear. The books of the Ragnar Covenant were even less trustworthy, filled as they were with mindless praise and glorification.
Salomon questioning himself was also within the Sorcerer Supreme's expectations.
"You are human, a genuine human!" the Venerable One said with absolute conviction. "No matter where you came from, that remains true!
As for the Holy Marks, I suspect they are the Book of Angel Raziel from legend, which records fifteen hundred profound pieces of knowledge from Heaven and Earth. The other branch of magic you have learned should have originated from it."
Naturally, the Venerable One was not referring to the translated Book of Enoch in Kamar-Taj's library, but the complete original grimoire, the Book of Angel Raziel.
As for the Kabbalah Tree of Life that Salomon had dreamed of while unconscious, it was very likely part of the Book of Angel Raziel. But its specific secrets would require Salomon to explore them himself.
After resting for a few days, Salomon would set off once more for Europe in search of the Witch Bayonetta.
