Definition

A Soul Master is a person capable of awakening a Martial Soul and possessing Soul Power. This separates them from ordinary people, granting access to cultivation, Soul Ring absorption, combat abilities, and professional opportunities unavailable to non-Soul Masters. 1 3

Becoming a certified Soul Master requires displaying one's Martial Soul and Soul Ring before Martial Soul Hall and undergoing a Soul Power measurement. Yu Yan was certified after demonstrating his yellow Soul Ring and level 12 Soul Power. 30

Awakening and Cultivation

Martial Soul Awakening

Martial Soul Hall conducts annual awakening ceremonies for children. Those who awaken a Martial Soul but lack Soul Power cannot become Soul Masters; those with Innate Soul Power can begin cultivation. 1 2

Innate Soul Power and Martial Soul quality affect cultivation speed. Stronger Martial Souls and greater Innate Soul Power allow a Soul Master to absorb and refine ambient Soul Power more efficiently. 2

Meditation

The Meditation Method uses a Soul Master's Martial Soul and existing Soul Power to draw in ambient Soul Power, convert it, and add it to their own reserves. It is the basic cultivation technique used by most Soul Masters on the continent. 2

Soul Power can continue to accumulate even when a Soul Master has reached a Soul Ring bottleneck, though advancing into the next formal stage still requires obtaining the appropriate ring. 19 23

Soul Power Refinement

Soul Power quality affects both endurance and skill output. Yu Yan's research established that compressed liquid Soul Power can more than double a user's total reserves, strengthen the body, and make Soul Skills more powerful with the same energy input. 180

Solidified Soul Power represents a further refinement: it greatly increases both the quantity and quality of Soul Power, continuously tempers the body, and improves Soul Skill release speed and power ceiling. 267 268

Soul Rings and Soul Skills

Soul Rings are normally obtained by defeating Soul Beasts and absorbing the energy they leave behind. They grant Soul Skills and allow a Soul Master to advance beyond major cultivation thresholds. 28 73 136

Absorbing a ring beyond one's endurance can be fatal; Soul Ring instruction includes accounts of Soul Masters exploding and dying during failed absorptions. 23

A conventional Soul Ring grants one Soul Skill. Yu Yan's two skills from a single ring were considered abnormal because his Companion Martial Soul is an exception to this rule. 28 47

Avatar of the Martial Soul

A seventh Soul Ring grants an Avatar of the Martial Soul, a major transformation that substantially enhances a Soul Master's combat power. 202 212

Yu Yan's seventh-ring Avatar manifested in two forms due to his Ice and Fire Twin Dragons Martial Soul:

• Ice Dragon Avatar — increases the power of ice-attribute Soul Skills to 150% and creates frost that affects nearby targets. 214
• Fire Dragon Avatar — increases the power of fire-attribute Soul Skills to 200%. 214

Combat Classifications

Soul Masters may be categorized by combat role rather than rank alone.

• Power Attack-type — specializes in direct offensive force and frontal combat. 73 79
• Control-type — restrains, disrupts, or limits enemies; control abilities can suppress Power Attack- and Defense-type opponents by binding them and slowing their Soul Power circulation. 79
• Defense-type — protects allies or withstands attacks, such as shield Martial Soul users assigned to guard vulnerable teammates. 73
• Agility Attack-type — relies on movement speed and maneuverability to bypass opponents and eliminate vulnerable targets. 215
• Support-type — enhances allies through buffs or restores them through healing. 215 251

Exceptional Martial Souls

Companion Martial Soul

A Companion Martial Soul is a single Martial Soul with “two souls in one” characteristics. It is stronger than an ordinary single Martial Soul but distinct from Twin Martial Souls. 1

Its defining traits include:

• Two complementary elemental aspects within one Martial Soul. 1 149
• Two corresponding Soul Skills from each absorbed Soul Ring, generally one for each aspect. 149 247
• The ability to perform a Martial Soul Fusion Skill alone because the two aspects have complete internal compatibility. 1 34
• High power and flexibility at the cost of extreme Soul Power consumption, mental control demands, physical strain, and possible backlash if the attributes become unbalanced. 48 149 247

Yu Yan's Ice and Fire Twin Fish is a Companion Martial Soul. His first-ring fusion skill, Ice and Fire Vortex, can pull enemies inward, inflict continuous ice-and-fire damage, cause rotational cutting damage, and function offensively or defensively; however, it consumed all of his Soul Power after 32 seconds at level 12. 48

Organizations and Society

Martial Soul Hall

Martial Soul Hall conducts Martial Soul awakenings, evaluates Innate Soul Power, certifies Soul Master ranks, and recruits talented candidates. 1 2 30

Certified Soul Masters can receive one Gold Soul Coin each month from Martial Soul Hall, a benefit that contributes to the major social divide between Soul Masters and ordinary people. 1

Soul Master Academies

Junior Soul Master Academies provide foundational instruction in:

• Martial Soul theory.
• Soul Power cultivation.
• Soul Ring knowledge and absorption risks.
• Soul Beast studies.
• Continental history and geography. 23

Their basic graduation requirement is obtaining a first Soul Ring. 23

Soul Master Guild

The Soul Master Guild accepts certified Soul Masters as members and provides missions such as merchant escorts, investigation work, and specialized labor. 33 39

Guild membership ranks progress through Copper Soul, Silver Soul, and Gold Soul status as members complete missions and earn points. Higher-ranked members can accept better-paying assignments. 39

Soul Fighting Arenas

Soul Fighting Arenas allow Soul Masters to gain combat experience and earn money through organized duels. However, life-or-death matches are especially dangerous and are not ordinary competitions. 33
