Background / History

The Li Family is one of the prominent families of the county neighboring Yinshan. Unlike the comparatively recent Lu Family, it possesses a foundation exceeding a century and controls its county's Security Station. Its rivalry with the Lu Family intensified over the planned merger of three counties and the resulting contest for the Public Security Bureau's leadership. 3 4

The family initially sought to remove Lu Jing'an through Nine-Fingered Yama. In exchange for assassinating Lu Jing'an, the Li Family freed Yama from Xiaoshan County prison and compelled him to take poison as insurance. 11 Later information identifies this as the first stage of a three-step plan: assassinate Lu Jing'an to damage the Lu Family's morale and political standing; if that failed, use a marriage alliance to humiliate them; and, if necessary, offer an unknown “gift” designed to destroy them. 47

After the assassination failed, the Li Family allied with the Lin Family through the betrothal of Eldest Young Master Li Zhaolin and Lin Qingyi. The extravagant proposal, public invitations, and planned wedding in Yinshan were intended less to benefit the Lin Family than to undermine the Lu Family's prestige and eliminate its ability to contend for the commissioner position. 14 19

Li Jinglin led the family’s Yinshan operation, arranging the wedding procession, local intelligence work, hidden cultivators, firearms, and the hiring of foreign Battle Master Lawrence. The Lu Family used Lu Jing'an’s intelligence gathering to identify the contingent’s concealed strength and then destroyed the Lin Family estate and the Li Family force gathered there. 20 22 25 28

Li Zhaolin arrived after the massacre, only to find his fiancée and the Li Family contingent dead. Lu Jing'an publicly humiliated him by ordering Section Chief Liu to slap him before allowing the survivors to remove the bodies. 29 30 Zhaolin was later reported killed by a demonic beast during the return journey, although he briefly escaped the Tiger Demon’s control while mortally wounded and provoked it into targeting the Lu Family. 33 36

Bloody Wedding

Li Jinglin’s contingent prepares a heavily guarded wedding operation, but the Lu Family identifies its hidden forces and eliminates the Li and Lin personnel assembled at Lin Mansion. 22 25 28

Aftermath and Continuing Threat

Following Li Zhaolin’s defeat and reported death, Lu Jing'an uncovers that the Li Family still possesses a final, unknown plan against the Lu Family and enjoys the support of Bai Chongyu in Hang Province. 33 47 48
