Background / History

The Tiger Demon was originally an ordinary tiger that had grown old and could no longer hunt effectively. Desperate from hunger, it entered a corpse-filled village and fed on decomposing human remains. The resentment, pestilence, and Disease Qi within the bodies transformed its blood, bones, and flesh; when the process ended, it had become a demon and was accompanied by the first Chang Ghost. It thereafter fed exclusively on humans 47.

Peacekeeping Bureau records state that it had occupied the forests outside Yinshan County for nearly forty years. Two prior encirclement campaigns failed because it was cunning, remained within its lair, and could refine the people it killed into Chang Ghost. In one disaster, it slaughtered seven or eight Bureau cultivators who accidentally entered its territory, costing the Bureau nearly a quarter of its total personnel 38.

The Tiger Demon attacked the Li Family after being drawn by their cart of corpses, which it had intended as nourishment for its cub. Li Zhaolin, briefly breaking free of the Tiger Demon’s control, entered its cave and shot the cub to death. His final act was intended to redirect the demon’s rage toward the Lu Family 36 47.

Appearance

The Tiger Demon was an abnormally huge yellow-and-black tiger whose presence carried overwhelming predatory pressure.

Personality

The Tiger Demon was highly cunning and territorial, avoiding direct engagements when it judged armed groups to be dangerous. It had survived repeated Bureau campaigns by remaining entrenched in its lair and selecting its battles carefully 38 41.

It treated Chang Ghost as “toys,” testing newly created puppets with a cruel and playful disposition. After Li Zhaolin killed its cub, its behavior became driven by extreme rage and hatred toward the Lu Family, leading it to actively send Chang Ghost into Yinshan County and pursue Lu Jing'an personally 36 38 43.

Li Family Incident

The Tiger Demon’s attack on Li Zhaolin’s armed convoy revealed that a demonic beast—not the Lu or Li Families—was responsible for the massacre. The incident prompted Lu Jing'an to seek the Peacekeeping Bureau’s records and investigate its capabilities 33 35.

Assault on the Lu Family

After its cub’s death, the Tiger Demon sent six Chang Ghost to attack the Lu Family mansion, targeting the family’s children. Lu Jing'an and Chen Xuan defeated the infiltrators, turning the demon from a distant threat into an immediate enemy 38 39.

Black Pine Forest Ambush

Lu Jing'an organized an eight-day operation using firearms, artillery, phosphorus, Public Security Bureau personnel, Canal Gang fighters, and Peacekeeping Bureau observers. The false forest fire drove the Tiger Demon from cover, though it answered by releasing 157 Chang Ghost before entering the battle itself 41 43.

Death and Aftermath

Artillery and concentrated gunfire severely wounded the Tiger Demon, but it nearly incapacitated Lu Jing'an with a mental attack. Chen Xuan then entered the battlefield and killed it within minutes. Lu Jing'an collected and refined its soul, obtaining four Affixes, eight Energy Points, and the Tiger Demon Memory Bead 44 46.
