Background / History

Lin Mu is a transmigrator who arrived in the Naruto world three years before the Chunin Exams. His Naruto Template System remained largely unusable because its templates required either special keys or enormous amounts of gold coins, while his child body was too weak to complete the system’s missions. He spent those years preparing, mapping the forest near Konoha and waiting for a chance to seize Orochimaru’s Hashirama Cells. 1

During the Chunin Exams, Lin Mu infiltrated Orochimaru’s secret base and obtained the cells. On his escape, he encountered Orochimaru in a female disguise; recognizing him, Lin Mu hid his fear and improvised a story about retrieving a marked branch for a bet. Orochimaru accepted the explanation and allowed him to leave. 1 2

After activating the cells, Lin Mu’s physique evolved into a Wood Style Body, raising him from mid-level Genin to mid-level Chunin. The transformation gave him Wood Release, immense physical improvement, high stamina, and rapid healing at the cost of chakra. 3

Although Lin Mu’s body was originally that of an ordinary war orphan, Jiraiya concluded that his Wood Release meant he was a descendant of the Senju Clan. Lin Mu allowed this explanation to stand, using it to conceal the true source of his power from Jiraiya and Konoha’s elders. 23 24 25

While traveling and training with Jiraiya and Naruto, Lin Mu supplemented chakra refinement with dangerous nighttime battles and system missions. His rare constitution also attracted Danzō’s Root organization. After identifying a masked recruitment party as Root operatives, he rejected their demands and fought the entire squad, ultimately killing ten Chunin and six Jonin. Orochimaru later discovered the theft of his Hashirama Cells and contacted Lin Mu through a giant snake clone. Like Jiraiya, he assumed Lin Mu possessed Senju ancestry, but his interest developed into a desire to take Lin Mu’s body. Lin Mu rejected his demand to appear alone, killed the clone, and recognized Orochimaru as a continuing threat. 81 82

During the conflict surrounding Tsunade, Lin Mu defeated Orochimaru’s Two-Headed Giant Snake, advanced to mid-level Jonin, and awakened Wood Release Senjutsu. He then protected the injured Tsunade and Naruto from Orochimaru, surviving a chest wound through regeneration and turning to natural energy when Orochimaru’s subsequent attacks nearly overwhelmed him. 93 97 98

Lin Mu is cautious, calculating, and highly survival-oriented. Before entering Orochimaru’s base, he spent years learning the terrain and approached the site only after carefully checking for danger. When confronted by Orochimaru, he maintained an innocent façade despite recognizing the threat immediately. 1 2

He is also ambitious and willing to exploit every advantage offered by the system, from purchasing module fragments to using consumables in combat. At the same time, he learns from his mistakes; after nearly being killed by enemy ninjas, he acknowledged his lack of combat experience and became more vigilant. 9 22 34

Despite his self-interested streak, Lin Mu protects people close to him. He aided Shikamaru during the Konoha invasion, protected Sasuke against Gaara, used a valuable chakra pill on Naruto, and later healed both Naruto and Sasuke with Wood Style chakra. 8 12 19 39 48 50
