Three days after the Sabaody Arena Riot Incident.
On the endless blue sea.
A warship drifted along lazily.
It took Fisher Tiger half a day to confirm there was no alcohol left aboard before he finally relaxed.
"If you're alone, you absolutely, absolutely must not drink at sea. It'll get you killed!"
After packing his belongings, he headed up to the deck with Lynn.
"Won't you stay a few more days?" Lynn asked.
"No. I need to start moving as soon as possible while the World Government's attention isn't on me." Fisher Tiger smiled.
Naturally, he was referring to his plan to attack the Holy Land Mary Geoise.
"Fair winds." Lynn nodded. "If anything happens, remember to come find me."
"Where are you going next?" Fisher Tiger asked.
"I'm going to train. I might travel around the world while I'm at it." Lynn stretched and turned to look out over the sea.
This warship subscribed to newspapers, so on the day after the incident, Lynn and Fisher Tiger saw reports about the riot in the newspaper delivered by a News Coo.
Fisher Tiger was furious over the false reports, while Lynn could not help bursting into laughter.
Seriously, would anyone actually believe reports about the Celestial Dragons?
But after the joking was over, Lynn's expression turned serious.
Of course, he understood what it meant to declare war on the Celestial Dragons.
The so-called Celestial Dragons were the descendants of the twenty kings who had founded the World Government eight hundred years ago. They represented the World Government, yet stood above it as well!
As a result, Lynn's crime of formally declaring war on the Celestial Dragons was even more serious than that of the Revolutionary Army opposing the World Government!
"100 Million Beli for my first bounty? Hahahaha, the World Government really is generous!"
Lynn grinned as he looked at his Bounty Poster.
"My head must be worth a fortune on the black market by now!"
Fisher Tiger was somewhat used to it.
The man before him seemed not to know what fear was.
But fearlessness did not mean Lynn looked down on everything.
His battle with Zephyr had made Lynn deeply understand the enormous gap between himself and the world's top fighters.
One of the most decisive factors was the three types of Haki.
Setting aside the uniquely special Conqueror's Haki for the moment.
To fight the monsters of the Grand Line and the underworld, Armament Haki and Observation Haki were indispensable.
However, to prevent uncontrollable riots within the arena, the Sabaody Arena had expressly forbidden gladiators from learning or using Haki. Once discovered, the guards had the right to execute violators on the spot.
Thus, although Lynn had forged extremely sharp combat instincts through four years of intense fighting in the arena, he knew absolutely nothing about the three types of Haki.
Without a teacher's guidance, taking even the first step in learning the three types of Haki was as difficult as ascending to heaven.
Therefore, Lynn desperately needed a teacher who understood Haki.
Though the Dark King Rayleigh lived in seclusion on the Sabaody Archipelago, Lynn had escaped from there. Going back now would be no different from walking into a trap.
"I'll travel around the world. Maybe I'll run into an expert who uses Haki!" Lynn declared.
Hearing Lynn's optimistic plan, Fisher Tiger could only offer him a helpless blessing.
After making one final inspection, Fisher Tiger bid Lynn farewell on the warship's deck.
Fisher Tiger raised his right hand and clenched it into a fist.
Lynn did the same.
"Lynn Barek, until we meet again."
"Until we meet again!"
Bang!
The human's fist collided with the Fish-Man's, and both men burst into laughter.
Their laughter gradually faded.
With a splash, Fisher Tiger leaped from the deck into the sea, while Lynn watched him swim away.
Now, Lynn was the only one left on deck.
"I wonder how everyone at the arena is doing."
Lynn leaned against the mast and looked up at the sky.
The original plan had been to scatter and break out with everything they had, so they had not agreed on a meeting place. Lynn had no way of knowing what had happened to the other gladiators afterward.
Still, judging by the news reports, everyone should have made it out safely.
"We'll meet again somewhere on the sea!"
Lynn rose and walked to the bow. Throwing both arms into the air, he shouted at the endless ocean, "Now then, let's set sail!"
"..."
Silence.
Only the sound of the sea could be heard.
Lynn suddenly felt that something was wrong.
He realized something.
Could he... sail a ship?
Apparently not!
Realizing this, Lynn suddenly rushed to the railing and shouted at the sea, "Tiger, come back! Teach me how to sail a ship! Tiger!"
He shouted for quite a while, but Fisher Tiger had already swum too far away. In the end, Lynn helplessly collapsed onto the deck and continued staring up at the sky.
This was bad.
He was not going to become the first wanted criminal with a bounty over 100 Million Beli to drift to death at sea, was he?
All of a sudden, the warship began to rock violently. Lynn braced himself against the railing, his scalp tingling.
This was the Grand Line!
Even the most experienced navigators could not afford to let their guard down on this route of death.
What right did a complete sailing idiot like him have to pilot a ship here alone?
Sure enough, the sky around him changed abruptly. Clouds pressed down overhead, plunging the world into darkness.
A storm had arrived.
Towering waves battered the hull without pause. If this had not been a sturdy warship, it would probably have already shattered into planks!
Lynn staggered into the cabin and found a bookshelf in the captain's quarters.
After searching for a long while, he finally spotted a book in the corner.
"Marine Recruit Navigation Basics."
This was it!
Lynn opened the book. The first sentence written inside was:
"Never underestimate the sea! Without sufficient experience and skill, no one can survive alone at sea!"
Lynn: "..."
What a reasonable sentence!
Only on the second page did it begin introducing basic navigational knowledge, including how to operate a ship.
Following the book's instructions, Lynn lowered the sails to reduce the ship's resistance against the wind, then turned the bow around to face the oncoming waves head-on!
It was his first time sailing, but he had watched Fisher Tiger's movements many times over the past few days. With the book's help and the warship's excellent construction, he barely managed to hold his ground in the storm.
Massive waves hurled Lynn's warship into the air, leaving him no choice but to grip the helm tightly and ride the wind and waves through the raging storm!
From time to time, Sea Beasts hiding among the waves launched sneak attacks.
Lynn dealt with every one of them with his fists, tossing them onto the deck as spare food.
The storm lasted nearly an entire day and night.
By the following morning, the sea had finally calmed, and Lynn collapsed onto the deck in exhaustion.
Who would have thought that in just one day and one night, Lynn had gone from a complete sailing idiot to a captain capable of riding out a Grand Line storm?
Pressure really did make people improve!
All Lynn wanted now was to rest and eat the Sea Beasts he had caught during the storm to replenish his Energy Value.
"What nice weather. There isn't even a hint of wind."
Lynn smiled.
But as he smiled, his expression froze.
No wind?
In an instant, Lynn thought of an utterly terrifying term—
The Calm Belt.
It was a band of ocean located on either side of the Grand Line. There was no wind there, and ordinary sailing ships could not travel through it.
But the true reason the Calm Belt had become synonymous with terror lay beneath the surface.
This was the nesting ground of gigantic Sea Kings!
Lynn ran to the railing and leaned over.
Beneath the deep-blue sea, a massive eye suddenly opened. Compared to it, the warship was as tiny as a bean on a porcelain plate!
Yet the owner of that enormous eye did not attack the warship. Its eye rolled once, then it silently sank back into the depths.
"Hm?"
Lynn flipped through Marine Recruit Navigation Basics and immediately breathed a sigh of relief.
To pass safely through the Calm Belt, some Marine warships had Seastone installed beneath their hulls. This special stone emitted the power of the sea, allowing ships to become "invisible" to Sea Kings to a certain degree.
Fortunately, the warship Lynn was aboard was one of those fitted with Seastone.
Thus, under the cover of the Seastone, Lynn followed the manual and activated the special paddles beneath the hull, guiding the warship slowly through the Calm Belt.
In the captain's quarters, Lynn also found three Log Poses.
Each was marked with the place it pointed toward.
Marine Headquarters;
The Sabaody Archipelago;
And—
East Blue, Loguetown.
