Night fell.
Guided by the mission, Du Mu arrived at a bar in the Bronx.
Investigation?
There was no need for that; the game mission would point out the clues directly.
Following the conspicuous red line in his vision, Du Mu quickly locked onto a brown-haired man dressed in gaudy clothes with his hair slicked back.
At this moment, the brown-haired man was hitting on a girl whose arms and neck were covered in runes.
He inadvertently flashed a fake gold watch on his wrist while speaking, and the eyes of Rune Poppy lit up instantly. She immediately put down her barely touched beer and drunkenly pressed herself against him.
The brown-haired man smiled, casually wrapped an arm around Rune Poppy's waist—which was as thick as an Iron Monger helmet—and turned to leave the bar.
This guy really isn't picky...
Du Mu watched in awe and immediately followed them without a sound.
The brown-haired man held Rune Poppy and turned into a narrow, dim alleyway with practiced ease, stopping in front of an inconspicuous iron door.
He knocked on the door, and soon, a burly man opened the Space Gate to welcome them.
The brown-haired man whispered a few words, the burly man nodded, stepped aside to let them in, and the iron door slammed shut.
Seeing this, Du Mu followed suit and knocked on the iron door.
The burly man appeared again, and upon seeing Du Mu's completely unfamiliar face, he immediately furrowed his brows.
"What do you want?"
"I just saw my friend being taken inside by a strange man. I need to go in and find her!"
"This is a members-only establishment. You can't come in."
The burly man looked at Du Mu coldly and gave a flat refusal.
Du Mu said angrily, "Damn it, that's my friend! Even though she drinks, gets tattoos, and hooks up, I know she's a good girl. What if she gets taken advantage of by that guy!"
The burly man's mouth twitched.
Are you sure anyone is actually after that Rune Poppy?
"If you don't let me in, I'm calling the police!" Du Mu laid down the threat on the spot.
Hearing this, a fierce glint flashed in the burly man's eyes, accompanied by a subtle, scarlet flicker.
"Fine, I'll make an exception and let you in."
The burly man pushed open the iron door, looking at Du Mu as if he were looking at a dead man.
Du Mu walked in without a care.
Inside the door was a long, dim corridor, with only a few scattered lights providing illumination.
At the end of the path was another iron door.
This time, a bald bouncer blocked Du Mu's path and held up a fluorescent stamp.
Fortunately, unlike Zhang Wei, Du Mu was not allergic to fluorescent stamps, so he let the man stamp the back of his hand.
Pushing open the final iron door, a thick stench of alcohol mixed with the smell of marijuana hit him instantly, and the rhythmic, heavy electronic music pounded against his eardrums.
A massive dance floor occupied most of the space, with dazzling colored spotlights flashing wildly overhead, and countless figures twisting passionately below.
In the booth area at the edge of the dance floor, the lighting was even more ambiguous and hazy. Men and women were chugging hard liquor, holding thin cigarettes between their fingers, and some were even performing a series of mosaic-worthy acts as if no one were watching, delivering quite a shock to Du Mu's pure and youthful heart.
Du Mu noticed that the red line from the mission guide had disappeared; it seemed the clue was right here in this underground bar.
A woman with big, wavy red hair noticed the fluorescent stamp on the back of Du Mu's hand. Her eyes lit up, and she immediately swayed her waist as she approached him.
"Hey, handsome, want to get to know each other?"
Du Mu lowered his head, and what met his gaze was a dizzying abyss. He immediately felt a sense of reverence!
"Of course, I love making friends."
The red-haired woman suddenly twitched her nose and frowned in confusion: "You seem to have a scent of blood on you. What do you do for a living?"
"Doctor."
Du Mu replied casually, his expression unchanging.
"Oh? That's perfect!"
The red-haired woman's eyes brightened even more. Her fingers lightly brushed across Du Mu's chest, her demeanor full of temptation as she rubbed her body against his: "I've been feeling a bit unwell lately. Can you help me see what kind of illness I have?"
Du Mu was not a doctor, but he could see the red-haired woman's symptoms at a glance.
This was definitely a classic case of being horny... oh wait, a fever.
Du Mu feigned modesty and said, "It's not very convenient to check here, is it?"
"It's fine, we can find a place to take our time and examine everything thoroughly." The red-haired woman whispered in Du Mu's ear.
It seems she really is burning up!
Du Mu was shy by nature and truly didn't know how to refuse an invitation, so he had no choice but to let the red-haired woman pull him toward the restroom in the corner.
Entering the cubicle, the redhead with the wavy hair immediately locked the door behind her.
"Doctor, where would you like to start the examination?"
The redhead licked her lips, her eyes brimming with the excitement of a predator.
"That depends on where you're feeling unwell."
Feeling the astonishing pressure on his arm, Du Mu glanced at the red dot on the mini-map, wondering if he should pretend to give up.
"Well, it's definitely my stomach. Right now, I'm... starving!"
The redhead's voice suddenly turned hoarse and distorted, her eyes erupting with a terrifying crimson glow as her mouth split open to reveal two hideous, sharp fangs!
Her once beautiful face instantly became grotesque, and she lunged at Du Mu like a monster!
Seeing this, Du Mu immediately lost all interest.
"Muay Thai Warning!"
Just as the fangs were about to touch his skin, Du Mu exerted force from his waist and slammed an elbow strike hard into the redhead's face!
Bang!
A dull thud was accompanied by the faint sound of shattering bone.
The redhead felt an unimaginable force explode from her cheekbone, and several broken teeth mixed with blood spray flew from her mouth!
Before she could even scream, she was sent flying off the ground like a tattered sack, slamming heavily into the cubicle wall with a boom that made the partition hum.
The redhead slumped to the ground, dizzy and disoriented, half her face visibly caved in, her crimson eyes filled with confusion.
Who am I?
Where am I?
What am I doing?
Du Mu retracted his elbow, stepped forward, and loomed over her, demanding sharply: "Speak! What kind of monster are you?"
That's the question I should be asking you!
The redhead stared at Du Mu in horror.
The strength the opponent displayed was completely beyond her comprehension; a single strike had rendered her utterly incapacitated. Is this something a human is capable of!?
"Not talking, are you!"
Du Mu showed no mercy, grabbing the limp redhead and raining down elbow strikes with his other hand like a violent storm!
The redhead had intended to speak at first, but every time the words reached her lips, they were forced back down by a vicious elbow strike.
With the continuous barrage of strikes, the redhead felt as if her head were being flattened.
Relying on her powerful survival instinct and willpower, she seized a brief gap between strikes and screamed through tears with her last ounce of strength: "Stop hitting me! I'll talk! I'm a vampire! I'm a vampire!!"
