Nawaki trained under Orochimaru for roughly two years before joining the border deployment. Although Orochimaru taught him Water Release techniques—including several B-rank techniques—and brought him on lower-level assignments, he withheld high-level missions out of concern for Nawaki's safety. This left Nawaki with limited real combat experience despite his confidence. 30

He dreamed of becoming Hokage, protecting Tsunade, and safeguarding Konoha. Initially, he placed great faith in his Senju heritage and his ninjutsu, offering to protect Bai Lin and Uchiha Mikoto during their reconnaissance assignment. 30 31

When Bai Lin is exhausted after using Lightning Release: Kirin, Nawaki returns with Mikoto, blocks an enemy Water Dragon Bullet with Water Wall, and helps evacuate Bai Lin from danger. 35

Nawaki and Mikoto later defeat a Sunagakure jonin through teamwork. The victory marks Nawaki's first major battlefield success against a stronger opponent. 39

Youth Duel
