Background / History

Tsunade is the granddaughter of Senju Hashirama and the elder sister of Nawaki. She was trained by Hiruzen Sarutobi alongside Jiraiya and Orochimaru, with all three identified as elite Jonin by the time of Bai Lin's graduation examination. 8 14 30

Although she is proficient in medical ninjutsu and possesses exceptional physical strength, Tsunade initially considers herself unsuited to taking disciples. She explains that medical ninjutsu and Super Strength demand rare aptitude, making them difficult to teach broadly. 16

Hiruzen nevertheless entrusts Bai Lin to her, believing Tsunade's loyalty to Konoha and protective nature make her the best person to keep him from straying down an extreme path. 16

Personality

Tsunade is blunt, proud, and highly irritable when challenged, disrespected, or forced into responsibilities she did not choose. Jiraiya's boasting, Bai Lin's lateness, and Bai Lin's repeated preference for Orochimaru's instruction all provoke immediate, often violent responses. 14 22 24 25

During their spar, Bai Lin uses Orochimaru's newly taught techniques, substitution tactics, and shuriken manipulation to wound Tsunade. Once serious, she uses Super Strength and speed to dominate him until Hiruzen ends the assessment. 17 18
