The silver moon hung high over a street in Konoha.
Uchiha Shisui leaned against a wooden wall, arms crossed over his chest, his expression cold.
Hearing footsteps draw near, he raised his eyes slightly and looked toward Obito, who was walking toward him.
"Did you succeed?"
Shisui's voice rang out along the empty street, carrying some distance through the silent night.
Obito paused and looked up.
"There was a little hiccup, but..."
He paused, excitement flashing in his eyes.
"Summoning Technique!"
With that, Obito quickly crouched and slammed his hand against the ground.
In an instant, a powerful surge of chakra spread out from him in every direction.
A moment later, a vast cloud of white smoke surged skyward like a raging tide, roiling and churning.
As the smoke rose, a deafening roar rang out from within. It was wild and furious, enough to send chills down anyone's spine.
Uchiha Shisui narrowed his eyes, staring into the smoke. The enormous silhouette emerging faintly within was reflected in his eyes.
"From the looks of it, you seem to have the Nine-Tails under your control for now. How am I supposed to make it my summon?"
Shisui's tone was calm as he spoke slowly.
Obito brushed the dust from his clothes and raised the corners of his mouth in a mysterious smile.
"It's only temporary. I didn't sign a Summoning Contract with the Nine-Tails. I just used a method someone else left behind."
His voice was low as he turned to Shisui.
"I'll leave the Nine-Tails to you."
As he spoke, Obito looked toward Kage Rock, his gaze turning somewhat distant. "I have something to take care of with the Fourth Hokage."
As soon as he finished speaking, a strange vortex swirled around him, gradually swallowing his figure. Before long, Obito had vanished.
After Obito left, Uchiha Shisui leaped onto a rooftop. Standing tall, he fixed his gaze on the Nine-Tails, shrouded in billowing smoke.
"The summoning technique I got from the Six Paths Madara Template came with a contract for the Nine-Tails, so I can send you away whenever I want,"
Shisui said in a low voice, as though speaking to the Nine-Tails, though he might just as well have been talking to himself.
"But until then, you can have some fun here."
As he spoke, the corners of his mouth lifted into a cold smile.
"Roar—"
The Nine-Tails' deafening roar tore through the quiet night sky, filled with boundless fury and savagery. Waves of sound rolled outward in every direction.
Wherever the roar reached, houses throughout Konoha trembled. Many villagers woke from their sleep, fear spreading through their hearts.
The Konoha Ninja who heard the commotion quickly sprang into action. Figures raced through the streets and alleys toward the Nine-Tails.
The few Special Jōnin leading them wore grim expressions. As soon as they reached the Nine-Tails, they wasted no time tying Explosive Tags to their Kunai. With a forceful swing of their arms, they sent the Kunai flying like raindrops, striking the Nine-Tails' massive body.
"Boom! Boom! Boom!"
The Explosive Tags detonated one after another, flames flashing as smoke billowed.
But to the Nine-Tails, the attacks were no more than mosquito bites, barely even a tickle.
The Nine-Tails didn't so much as blink. It simply swung its thick tail in disdain, killing every Ninja who had disturbed it as it tore down the houses.
The Ninja's faces grew even grimmer. They knew that the Nine-Tails before them was far beyond what they could handle.
"I'll take it from here! Ninja Art: Summoning Technique, Enma!"
Hiruzen Sarutobi wore green armor as he slapped one hand against the ground.
"Lord Third, what's that in the Nine-Tails' mouth?"
The Anbu Ninja gathered in front of Hiruzen Sarutobi and asked as they saw the purple chakra ball in the Nine-Tails' mouth.
"That's...! We absolutely cannot let the Nine-Tails get it off!"
Hiruzen Sarutobi furrowed his brow and muttered.
"But Lord Third, what should we do?"
The moment the Anbu finished speaking, the Tailed Beast Bomb shot from the Nine-Tails' mouth, heading straight for Kage Rock behind the Hokage Building.
As Hiruzen Sarutobi watched it fly, an unusually desperate look appeared on his face.
Just as everyone thought the village was about to be destroyed, a seal formula appeared in the sky and swallowed the entire Tailed Beast Bomb.
A moment later, a white flash lit up a distant mountaintop. Then, a mushroom cloud slowly rose.
"That's the Fourth Hokage's Flying Thunder God Guiding Thunder."
Hiruzen Sarutobi looked toward the figure atop Kage Rock and breathed a sigh of relief. Then he saw Minato fighting a man in a black cloak, but he couldn't go over. Dealing with the Nine-Tails was still the most urgent matter.
"We can't let the Nine-Tails keep destroying the village. Enma, transform into the Adamantine Staff!"
Enma nodded and transformed into a black pillar with gold ends.
"Extend, Enma!"
Hiruzen Sarutobi swept out his hand. An eye opened on the Adamantine Staff, and it began extending without end, pushing the Nine-Tails out of the village with its tremendous force.
"How am I supposed to watch from this far away?"
Uchiha Shisui looked at the Nine-Tails, which Hiruzen Sarutobi had pushed away with all his strength, and spoke calmly.
With that, Uchiha Shisui leaped down from the rooftop and slapped his hand against the ground, smiling faintly.
"Come forth, Nine-Tails!"
As a seal appeared on Uchiha Shisui's palm, the Nine-Tails, which had been outside Konoha, suddenly vanished.
Hiruzen Sarutobi stared at the spot where the Nine-Tails had disappeared, completely dumbfounded.
"Where's the Nine-Tails?"
A nearby Anbu suddenly shouted, "L-Lord Third! The center of the village!"
"What?"
Hiruzen Sarutobi turned toward the center of the village, his heart sinking.
The Nine-Tails suddenly appeared in the heart of Konoha, just as confused as anyone. Then its gaze fell on a figure below.
"You—why can you summon me?"
Within the mental space, the Nine-Tails glared fiercely at the young man before it, dressed in a black cloak patterned with red clouds. A hint of menace colored its voice.
"Nine-Tails, you don't need to know too much. Just be a good summon of mine."
The Mangekyō Sharingan appeared in Uchiha Shisui's eyes. He looked at the enormous Nine-Tails before him and spoke calmly.
"What a loathsome pair of eyes."
Looking at the man before it, the Nine-Tails remembered the person who had forcibly signed a contract with it. Its fury erupted at once.
"I advise you not to think about rebelling. I don't want to control you by force. That would be no fun."
The Nine-Tails narrowed its eyes at his words, snorted, and kicked Uchiha Shisui out of the mental space.
Just after Uchiha Shisui left the mental space, an enormous Giant Toad dropped from the sky and pinned the Nine-Tails beneath it.
Uchiha Shisui, standing nearby, narrowed his eyes as he looked toward Kage Rock and murmured to himself:
"Looks like Obito failed."
On Kage Rock, Namikaze Minato panted heavily, his Hokage cloak fluttering in the wind. Looking at the ravaged village, he furrowed his brow and spoke slowly.
"I'll stake my name as Hokage on protecting my family in this village. I won't let you run wild anymore, Nine-Tails!"
