Power Progression
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Early Bright Force | 35 | Reached by strengthening the internal organs and allowing blood-qi to penetrate the body. An ordinary new practitioner has roughly 5,000 jin of single-arm force; Lu Zhen entered with 7,000 jin due to his exceptional physique. 35 |
| Mid-stage Bright Force | 64, 65 | Bright Force qi-aura thoroughly permeates the internal organs and forms a self-sustaining internal cycle. Ordinary base strength rises to about 10,000 jin. 64 65 |
| Late-stage Bright Force | 105 | Blood-qi has fully permeated the organs, producing a major increase in endurance and strength. Ordinary late-stage practitioners possess about 15,000 jin of force. 105 |
| Dark Force | 115, 133 | The realm beyond Bright Force. A practitioner must refine blood-qi into spiritual power and form a mental force field; failure can cripple or kill them. 115 133 |
Realm Characteristics
Bright Force marks the shift from external body-tempering to internal strengthening. Its practitioners permeate powerful blood-qi into the five viscera and six bowels, tempering the organs until they are “as strong as steel.” Their breathing can produce tiger-, leopard-, and thunder-like sounds, while the heart and blood supply sustain continuous force generation. 33 35
The resulting blood-qi becomes furnace-like: vigorous, scorching, and capable of projecting outside the body as a visible protective aura. Bright Force is defined by the formation of an integrated force that can travel through and be released from the body. 33 35 115
- Internal organ strengthening — the defining requirement separating Bright Force from Force Refining. 33
- Projected force — blood-qi and force can be released beyond the body, producing shockwaves, fist wind, or a protective qi-aura. 31 35 47
- Sustained vitality — strengthened organs allow long, unbroken breathing and more enduring internal energy. 21 57
- Weapon compatibility — once force-generation is understood, the same internal force can be transmitted through weapons such as sabers. 49
Cultivation Requirements
Entering Bright Force
A Force Refining practitioner must move beyond training skin, flesh, tendons, and bones. The decisive step is driving blood-qi into the internal organs until the entire body can produce and circulate integrated force. 33
The threshold is considered exceptionally difficult because the internal organs must endure the same violent blood-qi that previously tempered only the exterior. 33
Advancing Within the Realm
Bright Force cultivation relies heavily on resources rather than closed-door practice alone. Medicinal herbs, mutant flesh, medicinal food, and internal cultivation methods nourish blood-qi, generate essence-qi, and strengthen the body. 49 57
- Internal cultivation methods refine the five organs and produce enduring internal energy. 49
- Medicinal resources accelerate the accumulation of blood-qi needed to advance from early to mid-stage. 49 59
- High-grade breakthrough medicine can forcibly assist an early-stage practitioner’s attempt to reach the mid-stage, though such methods carry risk. 59
Limit Break
A Late Force Refining martial artist who masters a technique to the Limit Break level can produce a single strike with roughly 70–80% of a Bright Force practitioner’s killing power. However, they remain inferior in stamina, resistance to damage, and sustained blood vitality. 21
“Iron Leg” Chen Feizhou, unable to reach Bright Force due to an old injury, compensated by training his Twelve-Road Tan Leg to Limit Break; one sweep could bend an iron pillar. His status approached that of an ordinary Bright Force Martial Master despite remaining at peak Late Force Refining. 22
Combat Capabilities
Strength and Force Projection
An ordinary early Bright Force martial artist possesses roughly 5,000 jin of single-arm strength. This force can be projected outward, creating visible air waves and destructive fist wind. 31 35
- A 5,000-jin stone lock is treated as the basic threshold of a Bright Force Martial Master. 47
- Early-stage practitioners can release blood-qi through punches and blades, visibly tearing apart air or generating white mist from friction and heat. 31 35 53
- Mid-stage Bright Force normally doubles the ordinary foundation to around 10,000 jin. 65
- Late-stage Bright Force normally reaches around 15,000 jin, though exceptional physiques and techniques can greatly exceed this. 105
Defensive Aura and Endurance
The blood-qi of a Bright Force practitioner radiates outward like a furnace or barrier. It can evaporate cold moisture around the body and provides a degree of defensive protection while supporting sustained combat. 35 43 47
Force-Generating Techniques
Force Extreme techniques multiply the lethality of a Bright Force practitioner’s base strength. A fighter with superior force generation can threaten opponents whose cultivation stage is higher. 59 61 65
- Lu Zhen’s Force Extreme techniques allowed him to defeat a late-stage Bright Force practitioner while only displaying mid-stage cultivation. 90 91
- High-end Western Battle Gear can allow early- or mid-stage Bright Force users to threaten stronger traditional martial artists. 60 61 109
- Bright Force alone does not guarantee victory; equipment, serum enhancement, physical foundation, and technical mastery substantially affect combat power. 59 60 109
Social Status
In Ocean City, Bright Force Martial Masters are recognized as privileged powerhouses. A practitioner can establish a martial-arts school, accept disciples, or receive a respected military post. 3 47
- The Garrison Bureau is expected to make room for any verified Bright Force expert, even without an existing vacancy. 47
- Mid-stage Bright Force cultivation and sufficient merit are formal requirements for a Garrison Bureau Squad Leader position. 59
- In more resource-rich inland regions, Bright Force martial artists are far more common and may be recruited by merchant caravans primarily for labor and protection against ordinary beasts. Dark Force Grandmasters remain the principal force against greater dangers. 214 215

- Duan Hu — Second-in-command of the Black Dragon Water Stronghold; an early-stage Bright Force expert. 38
- Lu Zhen — Progressed from early to mid- and late-stage Bright Force before advancing to Dark Force. 35 64 105 133
- Zhao Chongguang — Reached late-stage Bright Force through extensive resources, but was defeated by Lu Zhen’s single saber strike. 91
- Zheng Tu — Late-stage Bright Force practitioner who augmented his traditional foundation with Western Battle Gear and serum. 109 111
