It wasn't just the psychological or physical trauma and lingering effects left behind by the disaster that would torment this "lucky person"...
More frighteningly, selfish humans often blamed them for responsibilities that had nothing to do with them. For instance, some relatives of the deceased might question them like this:
"Why weren't you the one who died?"
"Why did you get to survive?"
"Why didn't you tell them how you survived?"
"They were my only family!"
"My son (daughter)..."
