"Enkidu, what are you doing?"
Ignoring the terrified looks of the bystanders, Annanu descended straight from the sky and landed beside Enkidu. Looking at what Enkidu held in his hands, he seemed rather curious.
Enkidu rose to his feet, his hands still covered in mud and his face brimming with interest.
"Annanu, look at this."
He opened his hands and showed Annanu what he had been holding.
It was a tiny clay figurine.
"Are you imitating the god Enki's creation of mankind?"
Annanu's eyes widened, his interest piqued as well.
The first humans had been shaped from clay by Enki and Mami.
Enkidu smiled and shook his head. "It's just a pottery shop. The owner shapes clay into the form of pots, then fires them."
"Oh! I see." Annanu nodded solemnly and sat beside Enkidu. "Can I try?"
He picked up a lump of wet clay. Rather than kneading it, he began manipulating it according to his will.
The clay danced in Annanu's palm, shifting into all kinds of shapes.
"This—"
A small child noticed the dancing clay in Annanu's hand and hurried over, his eyes shining.
"Big brother, what is that?"
"This? It's just clay." Annanu said this with absolutely no awareness that he himself was also made of clay.
"Annanu." Enkidu shrugged at Annanu and held out his hand.
Annanu naturally understood what Enkidu meant.
The two pressed their hands, along with the clay in them, together and shaped the clay according to their shared will.
When they slowly opened their hands, what appeared was—
A miniature child.
The child's eyes went wide in disbelief.
"Here, this is for you."
With a gentle smile, Enkidu placed the little child he and Annanu had shaped into the hands of the much larger child.
"Th-this, can I really have it?"
