"Saber... or perhaps not."

Diarmuid narrowed his eyes as he looked at this sudden newcomer and the sword in his hand.

He then glanced at Anno, and at the glowing chalk in Anno's hand.

"I certainly would have liked to be summoned as a Saber, but things aren't so bad as they are now."

Faced with Diarmuid's confusion, Sakumura did not hide anything. He shifted Crane Feather on his shoulder, glanced at Anno, who stood nearby with the Holy Sword in hand and Irisviel protected behind him, then curled his lip.

Anno shook his head at Sakumura's reaction.

Sakumura indeed had the potential to be summoned as a Saber, but in most cases, he would be summoned as an Assassin—especially now, when Anno had already been summoned as a Saber.

Sakumura had few possible classes: Saber, Assassin, and Berserker. Of those, Assassin was by far the most likely. One reason was that Sakumura's assassinations were truly famous throughout the world. When Sakumura was mentioned, he generally appeared under three identities.

Feather Demon Slash, who had slain the great yokai Day-Hiding Demon; the educator who founded Kyoto University; and—

The king-slayer who had assassinated the Tokugawa Shogunate's shoguns, the reformer, the Eagle of Restoration.

He fully met the basic qualifications for an Assassin. Even setting aside his two most famous victims—the shoguns of two generations of the Tokugawa Shogunate, Tokugawa Iemochi and Tokugawa Yoshinobu—the other people Sakumura had assassinated were hardly unknown either. For example, Abe Masahiro, a senior official of the shogunate; in Tosa Domain, he had also assassinated an official named Yoshida Toyo together with a patriot surnamed Koike. It was even said that Sakumura's shadow lay behind the Sakurada Gate Incident.

"My class is Assassin—but even so, my sword really isn't suited to being drawn in the shadows."
