Chapter Summaries

Lawrence and Merlin began strengthening Uruk’s defensive magecraft formation against the threat of the Beasts. At the royal palace, Anna arrived in Uruk while Gilgamesh tried to activate the Tablet of Destinies, unaware of Enkidu’s sharpened attention.

• Lawrence confronted Merlin about their long-standing familiarity and asked him to help improve Uruk’s defensive magecraft formation.
• Merlin admitted he had designed most of the formation and agreed to work with Lawrence on its defenses.
• Nanshe brought Anna to Uruk’s royal palace, where Anna offered to help despite not knowing what she could do.
• Gilgamesh tried to activate the Tablet of Destinies, which only grudgingly granted him a fraction of its authority because he rejected divine authority.

Zi Juan fought Umu Dabrutu, one of Tiamat’s Demonic Beasts, inside its storm barrier while Gilgamesh sent Enkidu, Fujimaru Ritsuka, and Nanshe to support her. The group broke through the storm and rushed toward the battle, where Zi Juan remained determined to kill the monster.

• Zi Juan charged Umu Dabrutu head-on after it trapped her and Jujube Steed inside a violent storm.
• Gilgamesh sensed Zi Juan’s heavy magical energy use and ordered Siduri to summon Fujimaru Ritsuka and Mash, while Enkidu searched for Zi Juan.
• Gilgamesh sent Enkidu, Fujimaru Ritsuka, and Nanshe to support Zi Juan and instructed Enkidu to watch for other Demonic Beasts.

Zi Juan fought Umu Dabrutu and, badly injured, unleashed her Noble Phantasm to overcome her hesitation and attack with everything she had. The chapter ended with her spear crashing down on the beast.

• Zi Juan used Jujube Steed to strike Umu Dabrutu, but the beast hurled her to the ground and badly injured her.
• Umu Dabrutu intensified its assault, leaving Zi Juan near death and nearly unconscious.
• Zi Juan bit her tongue to stay alert and resolved not to lose focus in battle again.

Enkidu and the Chaldeans tracked intense hatred to Tiamat’s Demonic Beasts while Zi Juan fought Umu Dabrutu until Nanshe arrived to defeat it. After Zi Juan’s Saint Graph shattered and was reconstructed, the group identified Umu Dabrutu as a Beast-class Servant and prepared to return to Uruk.

• Enkidu sensed dense hatred coming from Tiamat’s Demonic Beasts, and Fujimaru Ritsuka sent Nanshe to investigate a distant battle.
• Zi Juan fought Umu Dabrutu until her failing Saint Graph made her lose her balance, and Nanshe shielded her from the beast’s final attack.
• Nanshe defeated Umu Dabrutu, while Zi Juan’s shattered Saint Graph was reconstructed and Lawrence comforted her.

After Zi Juan and Nanshe reported Umu Dabrutu’s defeat, Gilgamesh ordered Zi Juan and Chaldea to prepare to subjugate Mushhushu. In the Underworld, Ereshkigal agreed to let Abzu fight Tiamat there, and Annanu asked her why the Underworld had moved beneath Uruk.

• Zi Juan told Gilgamesh that Nanshe had delivered the final blow against Umu Dabrutu, but Nanshe credited Zi Juan with nearly defeating it alone.
• Gilgamesh ordered Zi Juan to rest and then join Chaldea in subjugating Mushhushu, while Siduri prepared to brief them on the Demonic Beast.

Meanwhile, Lemoni and Stheno headed toward Uruk, where Stheno sensed one of her younger sisters, leaving Anna asleep in the city as Stheno anticipated their reunion.

• Siduri and Benkei explained that the First Mushhushu could use limitless magical energy and produce offspring, and that a swarm had forced Mordred and Benkei to retreat.
• Liao Ye fell when he heard that Mushhushu were poisonous, then greeted Zi Juan as his former Grand General and reunited with her.
• Fujimaru Ritsuka told Liao Ye to remain in Uruk and help construct the Demonic Beast Front instead of joining the mission against the Mushhushu.
• Lemoni told Stheno he could not clear out the multiplying Ugal alone, and recalled that his captain and brother Oceannus could destroy them with his Great Maelstrom.

Fujimaru Ritsuka and King Gilgamesh divided their forces to attack Mushhushu and Uridimmu, while Gilgamesh arranged for Anna to be brought to the palace. Anna, who had been helping an elderly woman in Uruk, remained troubled and frightened as the chapter ended.

• Ushiwakamaru returned with information about Uridimmu, whose rapid breeding made it a growing threat to the Demonic Beast Front.
• Gilgamesh assigned Fujimaru Ritsuka and his Servants to fight Mushhushu, while Liao Ye and Adekate joined Gilgamesh's Servants against Uridimmu.

After Lemoni drank an entire tavern’s month-long supply of liquor, Merlin and Stheno brought him to meet Gilgamesh in Uruk. Anna arrived at the palace feeling out of place among the city’s hopeful defenders, then found Stheno bewildered by Lemoni and the king’s conversation.

• Lemoni drank several tons of liquor without his stomach bulging, astonishing Merlin, Stheno, and the tavern owner.
• Merlin agreed to take Lemoni to meet the King of Uruk after they had settled their thirst.
• Anna followed Siduri to the palace, reflecting on her role as an evil Servant among people united by hope.

Zi Juan, Liao Ye, and Ushiwakamaru discussed legendary thousand-li horses before Zi Juan outlined a plan to destroy the original Uridimmu. The group agreed to prepare for reconnaissance and consider a night march, leaving the operation two days away.

• Zi Juan and Liao Ye talked about fighting beside their king and hoped to meet him again.
• Ushiwakamaru admired Jujube Steed, and Zi Juan and Liao Ye described the legendary mounts Wu Zhui and Surging Wave Gallop.

• A creature chewed something in the darkness, rose from the black mud, and wondered what it could do.
• Lemoni asked Gilgamesh what he should do, and Gilgamesh tasked him with finding Stheno and Anna’s other sister and scouting the southeast.
• Gilgamesh summoned Merlin and showed him words on the Tablet of Destinies describing a king with Clairvoyance EX who did nothing and only laughed.
• Merlin and Gilgamesh recognized the words as referring to King Solomon, and Gilgamesh ordered Merlin to inform Chaldea before erasing the writing.

Fujimaru Ritsuka arranged Chaldea’s formation for the coming battle against Mushhushu, assigning Nanshe to strike while Mash and Mordred held the front. Meanwhile, Annanu sensed danger approaching from every direction and continued preparing the Underworld for the final battle.

• Nanshe explained the uses of Mushhushu skulls while Fujimaru Ritsuka and his allies prepared for the next day’s encounter.
• Fujimaru Ritsuka told Roman to keep the radar scan active as Chaldea’s group and Zi Juan and Liao Ye’s group advanced toward Tiamat’s tentacles.

• Nanshe spotted a very large Mushhushu in the valley, and Fujimaru Ritsuka set off with Lawrence to investigate.
• Ushiwakamaru’s squad found fresh blood and scattered Uridimmu corpses where a large pack had been days earlier.
• Jujube Steed sensed an enemy, and Zi Juan warned the others to prepare for an attack.
• A strange black Demonic Beast with a huge tooth-filled mouth appeared before the five Servants, laughing eerily.

Zi Juan and the other Servants encountered a powerful black Demonic Beast that escaped after they attacked it, leaving them suspecting it was one of Tiamat’s Eleven Children and had eaten Uridimmu. Meanwhile, Fujimaru Ritsuka’s group defeated Mushhushu, and Nanshe arranged to borrow Lawrence for two days to approach Ishtar.

• Liao Ye charged the black Demonic Beast, and Zi Juan, Adekate, Ushiwakamaru, and Musashibō Benkei joined the attack.
• The black Demonic Beast vanished from their weapons, took flight, and escaped while laughing eerily.
• Musashibō Benkei and Ushiwakamaru suspected the creature was one of Tiamat’s Eleven Children, and Zi Juan said it had likely eaten Uridimmu.

Lawrence and Nanshe brought gemstones to Ishtar in the mountains, hoping to persuade her to help. Elsewhere, Lemoni encountered the enormous Bashmu, failed to hurt it, and left to warn Gilgamesh.

• Lawrence followed Nanshe into the mountains, where they planned to use gemstones to persuade Ishtar to act.
• Lawrence made real gemstones with a magical trick he had learned from his son, and Nanshe marveled at them.
• Lemoni found traces of blood and magical energy in the rainforest, then discovered the original Bashmu, a huge poisonous Dragon.
• Lemoni rammed Bashmu with tremendous force, but its scales left it completely unharmed.
• Lemoni decided to leave and report Bashmu to Gilgamesh, while Ishtar reacted with delighted shock to Lawrence's bundle of gemstones.

Lawrence and Nanshe persuaded Ishtar to return to Uruk and fight for it. Meanwhile, Gilgamesh assigned Chaldea to hunt Bashmu and sent Lemoni and Merlin to find Stheno and Medusa’s last sister.

• Lawrence introduced herself as Fujimaru Ritsuka’s Servant and asked Ishtar to aid Uruk.
• Ishtar agreed to return, secretly pocketing the gemstones Lawrence had offered.
• Lemoni identified the black poisonous dragon as Bashmu and located it at a branching point in the water.
• Gilgamesh assigned Chaldea to kill Bashmu and ordered Lemoni and Merlin to search for Stheno and Medusa’s last sister.
• Lemoni accepted the mission and left the front hall.

As Uruk prepared to face Tiamat, Gilgamesh and Enkidu resolved to fight despite their slim chances, while Fujimaru Ritsuka’s party set out to eliminate Ugal. Merlin, Lemoni, Anna, and Stheno departed on another journey, and Kurgarru questioned why Uruk’s people fought for a city destined to fall.

• Gilgamesh reviewed the remaining Demonic Beasts and told Enkidu they would win against Tiamat.
• Fujimaru Ritsuka led Liao Ye, Zi Juan, Mash, Mordred, Ushiwakamaru, and Musashibō Benkei out of Uruk to eliminate Ugal, while Zi Juan felt uneasy about Roman’s voice.
• Merlin, Anna, and Stheno set out with Lemoni, and Stheno sat on Lemoni’s shoulders after he offered to carry her.
• Kurgarru and Galatur organized the troops as Adekate returned to the Demonic Beast Front.
• Kurgarru asked why humans fought for Uruk despite its destined destruction, and an officer replied that it was their city.

Kurgarru wondered why he and Galatur could not understand themselves, and Adekate suggested they ask their creators, Annanu and Enkidu. Meanwhile, Fujimaru Ritsuka and his companions followed the waterway toward their destination and discussed the unusual records of female Servants.

• Kurgarru told Adekate that he and Galatur felt lost about their own existence and wanted to understand what they had forgotten.
• Adekate admitted he could not answer Kurgarru's questions and suggested he seek answers from Annanu and Enkidu.
• Kurgarru decided to go with Galatur to speak to their creators and thanked Adekate for listening.
• Roman guided Fujimaru Ritsuka, Mash, Zi Juan, and Ushiwakamaru along the waterway and reminded Mash to stay near Ritsuka.
• Fujimaru Ritsuka asked why Zi Juan had been recorded as a woman when many other female Servants had been recorded as men.
• Zi Juan said Xiang An's praise, “Lady Langya, a heroine for all ages,” may have preserved her identity as a woman and had become her Noble Phantasm.

Annanu tried to answer Kurgarru and Galatur’s questions about why they existed by reaching into their minds and giving them a gentle touch. As they fell asleep, Ishtar returned to Uruk and discovered that Annanu had been summoned too.

• Enkidu left Annanu to speak with Kurgarru and Galatur, who asked why they existed and whether they should die.
• Annanu acknowledged that he and Enkidu shared responsibility for leaving the Shields of Humanity unfinished and unable to understand their own lives.
• Annanu embraced Kurgarru and Galatur, entered their confused minds, and gently touched them before leaving them asleep.
• Annanu wondered whether completing Kurgarru and Galatur at this point had been the right choice, then decided not to dwell on it.
• Ishtar flew toward Uruk on Maanna, sensed Annanu’s magical energy, and grabbed Nanshe while demanding to know why she had not mentioned his summoning.
