Ch. 1896The Problem of the Holy Grail

Matou Shinji and Emiya Kiritsugu were drawn into an inner space that tested their resolve with visions of family and fulfilled wishes. Shinji rejected the false Sakura and destroyed the impossible dilemma, while Kiritsugu confronted a being using Irisviel’s appearance that claimed to be the Holy Grail’s consciousness.

  • Matou Shinji recognized that the Sakura in the Matou study was an imitation and stabbed her with a jeweled blade.
  • Matou Shinji rejected the voice’s choice between saving Sakura or his father and uncle, destroying both bomb-rigged houses instead.
  • Emiya Kiritsugu found himself on a familiar beach, where an Irisviel-like figure said he could make his wish to complete the Holy Grail.
  • Emiya Kiritsugu questioned the figure’s identity and aimed his handgun at her.
  • The figure admitted she was the Holy Grail’s consciousness, wearing Irisviel’s personality as a mask and claiming to have inherited her wish.

Ch. 1897The Last War

Anno faced Gilgamesh at Fuyuki Civic Hall and fought to stop the black mud from spreading, while Emiya Kiritsugu was tested with a choice between two sinking ships. Kiritsugu hesitated when the people on the ship he would abandon captured him, and an explosion and gunfire erupted outside the window.

  • Anno demanded answers from Gilgamesh, then fought him amid the black mud at Fuyuki Civic Hall.
  • Anno reflected on Kiritsugu’s wish for world peace and resolved to erase the outcome that would make Kiritsugu lose his ideals.
  • Gilgamesh summoned the Key of Heaven, then prepared to face Anno at full strength in the final battle.
  • Irisviel vanished, and a voice presented Kiritsugu with a scenario in which he could save only one of two sinking ships.
  • Kiritsugu chose the ship carrying three hundred people, but hesitated when told that the other ship’s passengers had captured him.
  • An explosion and gunfire sounded outside, and Kiritsugu pulled back the curtains to look.

Ch. 1898Farewell

Emiya Kiritsugu was forced to confront the brutal logic behind his choices and the wish the Holy Grail offered him. As Anno and Gilgamesh clashed, Kiritsugu rejected the temptation to kill the world for the sake of Irisviel and Illya, then raised his handgun against Illya.

  • A voice showed Emiya Kiritsugu visions in which his choices to save the greater number caused others to die, and insisted that those choices reflected his true wish.
  • Emiya Kiritsugu argued that he had sought a miracle to find a different way to save the world, but the voice claimed he did not know how to achieve one.
  • Anno and Gilgamesh exchanged attacks, and their Noble Phantasms, Chalk Holy Sword and Ea, collided.
  • The voice made Emiya Kiritsugu choose between saving Maiya Hisau or Irisviel and Illya, and he killed Maiya Hisau to save Irisviel and Illya.
  • Irisviel urged Emiya Kiritsugu to wish for her resurrection and Illya's return, even if it meant killing everyone in the world.
  • Emiya Kiritsugu said farewell and pressed his handgun against Illya's neck before firing.

Ch. 1899Saving the World

Emiya Kiritsugu killed Illya and Irisviel after rejecting the corrupted Holy Grail, then confronted Matou Shinji and learned he wanted Archer killed as part of his plan to withdraw from the war. Shinji severed his contract with Archer, and Anno killed Gilgamesh before the Holy Grail.

  • Emiya Kiritsugu watched Illya die, strangled Irisviel, and declared that he would save the world before killing her.
  • Matou Shinji woke and fought off Emiya Kiritsugu’s gunfire with Liquid Jewel Magecraft, then explained that he wanted the corrupted Holy Grail destroyed.
  • Matou Shinji used a Command Spell to sever his contract with Archer and ordered Saber to kill Archer, giving his reason for joining and withdrawing from the Holy Grail War.
  • Emiya Kiritsugu used his own Command Spell to order Saber to kill Archer, while Anno pressed his attack on Gilgamesh.
  • Anno pierced Gilgamesh’s chest with the Holy Sword, and Gilgamesh vanished in a streak of golden light.

Ch. 1900You're Not the Only One Rescued

After Anno destroyed the Holy Grail, its black mud poured over Fuyuki City, and Emiya Kiritsugu searched the burning ruins for survivors. Anno saved a red-haired boy before vanishing, leaving Kiritsugu with a final warning not to abandon the people he could save.

  • Anno obeyed Emiya Kiritsugu’s final Command Spell and destroyed the Holy Grail.
  • A black hole opened above Fuyuki City, and black mud spread through the city, setting it ablaze.
  • Emiya Kiritsugu searched the rubble and found a barely breathing red-haired boy.
  • Anno arrived critically injured and used his remaining strength to save the boy.
  • Anno told Emiya Kiritsugu to save those he could and not abandon the boy, then vanished into golden particles.

Ch. 1901The Fallen Are Monuments

After the Fourth Holy Grail War, Waver said goodbye to Kirei and resolved to follow Iskandar’s example as he returned to London. In Fuyuki, the Matou family dealt with Shinji’s recklessness and Tohsaka Tokiomi’s death, while Kirei brought Tokiomi’s widow and daughter home and apologized to Rin.

  • Waver thanked Kirei, then reflected on Iskandar’s dream and his own duty as the King of Conquerors’ retainer before leaving for London.
  • Matou Byakuya beat Shinji for sneaking into the Holy Grail War, and Shinji told Sakura he had helped kill her father’s killer.
  • Byakuya declined to attend Tohsaka Tokiomi’s funeral because he needed to sustain Matou Zouken with Jewel Magecraft, while Kariya agreed to take Sakura.
  • About a week later, Kirei brought Aoi and Rin back with Tokiomi’s will and offered his condolences at the ruined church.
  • Kirei apologized to Rin for failing to protect Tokiomi, but Rin said she would neither forgive him nor like him.

Ch. 1902The Living Keep Walking

At Tohsaka Tokiomi’s funeral, Rin accepted her new role as head of the Tohsaka Family while Kirei Kotomine and Matou Kariya promised to support her. After the funeral, Emiya Kiritsugu adopted the boy from the ruins as Shirou Emiya and asked Hinako Akuta to care for him if he went to Germany.

  • Kirei Kotomine officiated Tohsaka Tokiomi’s funeral, where Aoi Tohsaka, Rin Tohsaka, Matou Kariya, and Matou Sakura mourned.

Ch. 1903A Cheap "Sorry"

Hinako Akuta and Taiga Fujimura met Shirou after Kiritsugu left for Germany, while Kiritsugu and Waver struggled with the aftermath of the war. Kiritsugu left Illya behind at the Einzbern castle, and Waver began his travels after borrowing money from Kirei Kotomine.

  • Hinako Akuta told Taiga Fujimura that Kiritsugu had gone to Germany and left Shirou in her care, and Taiga introduced herself to Shirou as Big Sister Taiga.

  • Waver Velvet went to India instead of returning to the Clock Tower after Kenneth's death, but thieves stole his luggage.
  • Waver called Kirei Kotomine for money, and Kirei transferred it without asking for repayment.
  • Waver planned to travel through India, Persia, Macedonia, and Greece before returning to the Clock Tower, but a group of punks surrounded him.

Ch. 1904Partners in Justice

Five years after the Fourth Holy Grail War, Kirei Kotomine and Waver Velvet continued their new lives while Emiya Kiritsugu’s health declined. After Kiritsugu told Shirou Emiya he had given up on becoming an ally of justice, Shirou promised to pursue that dream in his place, and Kiritsugu died peacefully several days later.

  • Waver Velvet repaid the money Kirei Kotomine had lent him and explained that he was working toward becoming a magecraft teacher.
  • Kirei Kotomine continued managing Sakumura’s online account and serving as Fuyuki Church’s priest, keeping the dagger beneath his clothes as a reminder of his promise.
  • Shirou Emiya noticed Emiya Kiritsugu’s worsening health and learned that Kiritsugu had entrusted something to Hinako and Taiga.
  • Kiritsugu told Shirou that he had given up his childhood dream of becoming an ally of justice, and Shirou promised to take his place.

After returning from the Florence Singularity, Lawrence reflected on her longing for Harley and accepted that Harley would love her even if she could not become a Heroic Spirit. The next morning, Lawrence, Fujimaru Ritsuka, Mash, and Leonardo da Vinci discussed the newly detected Subspecies Singularities and prepared to investigate them.

  • Lawrence struggled to sleep after returning from the Singularity, thinking about the Harley she had met there.
  • Leonardo da Vinci visited Lawrence, who admitted she was sad but felt she had let go of some of her longing for Harley.
  • The following morning, Lawrence reasoned that at least five Demon God Pillars had returned to Earth's history and that Chaldea had not detected every threat.
  • Mash apologized for being unable to use Galahad's power, but Fujimaru Ritsuka reassured her that the group had returned safely.
  • Leonardo da Vinci encouraged the group to eliminate the six Subspecies Singularities, and Fujimaru Ritsuka and Mash left to prepare while Lawrence went to check on Gran Cavallo.
