PS: My initial concept for the Nen Beast was a Zoldyck-style wish machine, but I abandoned it later; it was too game-breaking!
...I am a dividing line...
February in Konoha still held a lingering chill, but the lush trees remained unaffected by the mild winter that had just passed.
Suifeng estimated that Konoha's location on this planet must be in the tropics, as there was no real winter here at all. Looking up, one saw only green; stepping into the woods, bugs crawled everywhere, which was quite annoying.
The current Chunin Exams were not like those ten years later, which still required written tests and the like.
Those confident enough to participate in the Chunin Exams were all capable individuals—Genin who had graduated years ago. With the situation between nations growing tense again, who had the heart for superficial things like written tests? Everything was about combat power.
Therefore, this exam consisted of only two parts: mutual slaughter and one-on-one duels.
The slaughter within the Forest of Death and the duels between the victors.
"So, you didn't find anyone to team up with?!"
The rules for the Forest of Death trial had remained unchanged for a century. The only difference was that most Genin formed squads, while a very select few geniuses who felt their strength surpassed their peers chose to be lone wolves, just like Kakashi was now.
"No need!" Kakashi glanced at Suifeng, his eyes revealing complex emotions.
Truth be told, he felt deeply grateful to Suifeng. Because of Suifeng's actions, Murakami Ame was exposed as a spy from another village and executed, which also confirmed that White Fang had been framed, allowing public opinion in the village to shift to a certain extent. It could barely be considered avenging his father.
However, with his heart currently closed off, he didn't know what attitude to take toward Suifeng; meeting was actually quite awkward for both of them.
"Team up with me!" Suifeng said, wearing his usual friendly smile. "Otherwise, you won't make it through the Forest of Death!"
"Huh?!" Kakashi looked up, confusion showing in his eyes. "I can make it through!"
"You won't make it through!" Suifeng smiled. "I will clear the Forest of Death at top speed and block the exit. I won't let a single scroll pass. If you don't team up with me, your scroll will also become my trophy!"
"What?!"
"Arrogant guy!"
"Who does he think he is?!"
"He actually dared to say that!"
"Is he crazy?!"
Suifeng did not avoid anyone when he spoke. There was a large crowd of Genin and proctors nearby, all of whom had already received their respective scrolls and were poised to start. Who could have imagined that right before departure, Suifeng would drop such a bombshell in front of everyone?
It wasn't just the Genin; even several proctors felt that the world had changed.
Is this even allowed?!
Truly worthy of being an arrogant Uchiha!
"I refuse!" Kakashi lifted his head, looking at Suifeng earnestly.
"Alright then, good luck!" Suifeng smiled and said no more.
Did you think he really wanted to take Kakashi under his wing? Wrong, he just wanted to show off.
I'm not targeting any one of you; I'm saying you are all trash!
This show of arrogance was highly successful, effectively drawing the hatred of everyone present. So much so that after entering the Forest of Death, no one had the heart to fight each other. Most people sprinted toward the exit at top speed, planning to pull off a heist at the finish line and leave immediately.
But how could their speed compare to the current Suifeng?
With a burst of Shave Body Flicker, he reached the exit of the Forest of Death in just half an hour.
Half an hour later, Kakashi appeared.
Seeing Suifeng leaning against a tree, he slowly took a step back, a sharp and gloomy aura washing over him.
"Kakashi, hand over the scroll. I won't hit you!"
Whoosh!!
Kakashi's figure moved like lightning, appearing before Suifeng in an instant, the kunai in his hand already swiping across his throat.
It passed through smoothly, and the Suifeng before him gradually faded and vanished.
A clone? No, an afterimage!!
Bang!!
As his mind raced, he felt a sharp pain in his right flank, and a massive force swept him five or six meters away.
Enduring the pain, he adjusted his posture in mid-air, but the moment his feet touched the ground, his left flank throbbed with pain, and he was sent flying again. After two such hits, he could no longer maintain his stance and crashed heavily to the ground.
Suifeng walked up to him, took a scroll from his body, tore it open to look, then tossed it aside. "So, Kakashi, why bother? I don't need your scroll anyway. How about I let you pass?!"
"Is the gap already this wide?!" Kakashi didn't speak. He took a deep look at Suifeng, stood up, and without even glancing at the scroll on the ground, silently limped out of the Forest of Death.
"This is a big problem now!"
In the Hokage Office, the Third stared intently at the crystal ball, his brow furrowed into a deep frown.
Konoha attached great importance to this Chunin Exam and had prepared meticulously for it. Kakashi was only six; if he passed the Chunin Exams, he would be the youngest Chunin in history, cementing his reputation as a genius and demonstrating Konoha's potential to other villages.
Don't think that just because White Fang was dead, Konoha had no talent left—White Fang had a successor.
The plan was now a complete disaster. Facing Uchiha Suifeng, Kakashi didn't even have the strength to fight back. Uchiha Suifeng's speed was simply too fast; never mind these genin, even jounin who weren't speed-specialists might not be able to keep up with him.
He didn't even need to use ninjutsu; with his extraordinary speed alone, he could thrash every single examinee this year.
In other words, everything was exactly as Uchiha Suifeng had claimed before the exam: apart from him, not a single person would pass the trial of the Forest of Death, and there would be no second stage of the Chunin Exams.
"Damn it, why is he doing this?! Is this a plot by the Uchiha clan?"
Hiruzen Sarutobi stared fixedly at Uchiha Suifeng in the crystal ball, veins bulging on his forehead.
"Hiruzen, are you going to let that Uchiha brat continue this farce? This exam is turning into a joke!"
Danzo pushed open the office door with a huff and shouted angrily, "Stop him at once!"
"Stop him? How?!" Hiruzen Sarutobi retorted. "He hasn't violated the rules of the Chunin Exams. Once the exam begins, life and death are left to fate; no one is allowed to interfere!"
"But if this continues, no one but him will pass the Forest of Death. Do you intend to let this brat become a chunin? Don't forget, he is from the Uchiha clan and only eight years old. If he becomes a chunin, he will be the youngest in history, and the Uchiha clan will become even more arrogant!"
"I know!" Hiruzen Sarutobi was also deeply troubled.
Normally, he could accept any outcome of the Chunin Exams; what did it matter if no one passed?
But this time was far too special.
Uchiha Suifeng and Kakashi were both very young and both bore the reputation of geniuses; becoming a chunin would inevitably cause a sensation.
If both passed the exam, Kakashi, being a year younger than Uchiha Suifeng, would at least be able to overshadow him in age and become the youngest chunin.
It wouldn't have mattered if Uchiha Suifeng passed the exam.
But now, Uchiha Suifeng was playing entirely outside the rules, kicking Kakashi out of the game directly and seemingly intending to eliminate everyone else. If that happened, the titles of Konoha's number one genius and the youngest chunin in history would fall into the hands of the Uchiha clan. For the Hokage faction, this was not good news—no, there could be no worse news than this.
"Hiruzen, you are too indulgent toward the Uchiha. Since you won't act, I will!"
"What are you planning?!" Hiruzen Sarutobi's expression changed as he glared at Danzo. "Don't do anything reckless. If something happens to Uchiha Suifeng, the Uchiha clan will certainly not let it go."
"Hmph, a living genius is a genius, but a dead one is nothing. The Uchiha clan won't go to war over a dead person!"
"Danzo, whatever you are about to do, stop immediately!" Hiruzen Sarutobi said, filled with shock and anger.
"It's already too late!!"
"What?!" Hiruzen was greatly alarmed, his gaze falling back onto the crystal ball.
At the exit of the Forest of Death, Uchiha Suifeng frowned as he looked at the three figures surrounding him. "Who are you? Anbu? You have some nerve, daring to sabotage the Chunin Exams?!"
