Background / History
The Uchiha are a major Konoha clan divided into four branches according to bloodline proximity. Three branches are led by elders, while the clan head leads the fourth. Suifeng, Obito, and the future Shisui belong to the Great Elder's branch. 1
The clan historically possesses an immense collection of copied ninjutsu, accumulated through generations of Sharingan users. Its genin may enter the Konoha Military Police Force rather than follow the standard squad-and-mission path used by ordinary graduates. This internal protection also contributes to the clan's reputation for being isolated from the rest of the village. 2 11
The clan's traditional public image is one of pride, insularity, and excessive faith in its bloodline. Suifeng deliberately adopts this image as a public persona early in his career, causing other Konoha clans to underestimate him as merely another conventional Uchiha. 5
Under Suifeng's influence, the clan develops Sharingan-compatible body techniques, strengthens its Military Police Force, and improves its treatment of civilians. Its patrols become more courteous and proactive, gradually changing villagers' perception of the clan. 63 80 131
The clan's growing military and political influence alarms Konoha's leadership. The Military Police Force becomes Konoha's strongest military power, while the Uchiha's control of key positions and informants makes the clan increasingly difficult to contain. 71 193
Traits
The Uchiha's defining bloodline limit is the Sharingan. Its dynamic vision, ability to record hand seals and chakra flow, and enhancement of genjutsu give even an average Uchiha a major advantage against peers. 3 23
- The Sharingan can copy conventional ninjutsu by observing hand seals and chakra flow. 23
- It does not inherently improve the user's physique. 3
- Secret techniques and instantaneous chakra-release techniques are much harder to copy, particularly techniques without hand seals such as the Strength Enhancement Technique. 23
- Most Uchiha are limited to the Three-Tomoe Sharingan; awakening the Mangekyo Sharingan requires extreme spiritual stimulation and exceptional aptitude. 2
- Mangekyo awakening can drive a user's overall strength toward the Kage level through heightened insight and control of their eyes. 61
Abilities & Skills
Sharingan-Adapted Nintaijutsu
Suifeng develops techniques that make specialized use of the Sharingan's dynamic vision and bodily control. They are difficult to train but substantially improve the combat power of compatible clan members. 63 65
- Iron Body — A defensive taijutsu created by Suifeng; it can mitigate damage from powerful attacks. 22 41
- Shave Body Flicker — A high-speed offensive body technique combining Body Flicker movement with powerful kicks. It requires the Sharingan to coordinate muscles, blood flow, and breathing at extreme speed. 63 65 72
- Ninja Art: Circle — A sensory ninjutsu created by Suifeng; its demanding chakra-control requirements prevent some trainees from mastering it. 41
- Leaf Dance — A new body technique developed through the collective work of Suifeng's trainees. 107 120
Military Police and Intelligence Network
The Uchiha retain immense influence in the Military Police Force, including key posts and much of Konoha's informant network. 125 193
- Police patrols maintain order within Konoha. 80
- Uchiha teams are valued for reconnaissance when distributed among regular Konoha squads. 144
- The clan's battlefield deployment of Shave Body Flicker causes severe losses among Kirigakure infiltrators and reconnaissance teams. 72
Organization
| Position / Group | Known role |
|---|---|
| Clan Head | Leads one of the clan's four bloodline branches. Fugaku serves as clan head during the documented period. 1 85 |
| Three Elders | Each leads one of the other three bloodline branches. 1 |
| Great Elder | Leads Suifeng's branch and supports his training, research, and political rise. 1 22 34 |
| Konoha Military Police Force | The clan's principal institutional power base; later described as Konoha's strongest military force. 11 71 |
| Special Operations Squad | A Military Police Force division commanded by Suifeng. 125 |
| Suifeng Faction | A cohesive group formed around Suifeng's training methods and shared advancement. 107 |
Relationships
- Konohagakure — The Uchiha serve the village through the Military Police Force, but their expanding power produces distrust among Konoha's leadership. 11 71
- Uchiha Suifeng — A prodigy, instructor, and major catalyst for the clan's military reforms, public-image shift, and political growth. 63 80 107
- Uchiha Fugaku — Clan head who works with Suifeng during periods of internal unrest and supports his plans for the clan's future. 85 192 193
- Uchiha Fukuyama — Jonin, Suifeng's instructor, and later the Military Police Force's deputy captain. 1 120
- Shimura Danzo and Root — Persistent adversaries; Root's actions against Suifeng lead to clashes with the Military Police Force and increasing clan hostility. 63 85
- Hiruzen Sarutobi — Concerned that the clan's control of the Military Police Force resembles an internal separatist military power. 71
- Konoha villagers — Relations improve as Uchiha patrols become helpful, apologetic, and engaged with civilian affairs. 80 131
- Hyuga clan — Another prominent ocular-jutsu clan; Suifeng later orders surveillance of the Hyuga over suspected outside infiltration. 193
Story Role / Major Arcs
Rise of the Suifeng Faction
Suifeng's early achievements bring greater attention to the clan, while his research and training methods offer the Uchiha new avenues beyond conventional Sharingan use. 11 22 41
His advancement to the youngest Chunin in history and defeat of Root Jonin increases the influence of both his personal faction and the wider clan. 34
Conflict with Root
Danzo repeatedly treats Suifeng and the Uchiha as a threat. After Suifeng reaches Kage-level strength, the Military Police Force clashes with Root, inflicts significant losses, and secures a ban on Root operations inside Konoha. 63
Reform of Clan Discipline
As dissatisfaction and battlefield ambitions spread among young Uchiha, Suifeng redirects them into technique development and harsh physical training rather than rebellion. He disciplines arrogant trainees, organizes mass running exercises, and tailors body techniques to individual strengths. 87 88 107
Integration and Political Expansion
The clan's improved conduct toward civilians transforms its standing in Konoha, while its battlefield performance and reconnaissance capabilities earn greater recognition. Suifeng proposes dispersing Uchiha into regular squads rather than maintaining isolated teams. 80 144
Ascendancy
By the later period, the Uchiha are described as the number one noble clan in the ninja world. Their influence in Konoha makes espionage difficult, while their strength and cohesion intensify fears among opponents and village authorities. 157
Trivia
- The clan's four branches are organized by bloodline proximity rather than geography or occupation. 1
- Suifeng's branch uses a generational naming pattern associated with chakra natures, including Earth, Water, and Wind. 1
- Although the Military Police Force is no longer strictly composed only of Uchiha later on, Uchiha influence within it remains substantial. 193
