"Spiders? Cave Spiders," Karl analyzed calmly.
Spiders were a large group, and Cave Spiders were among the larger ones. Some could even prey on birds.
After Yan blocked the first wave of attacks, Sylutia quickly took aim and fired. The bowstring twanged, and her black arrow struck the spider's abdomen, embedding itself in the flesh.
Then the captain, Bad Apple, silently rushed in at incredible speed from the rear flank. A faint, concealing glimmer appeared along his dagger's blade as he slashed a half-meter-long gash across the spider's abdomen. Yellow-green fluid sprayed everywhere, filling the air with a sour, fishy stench.
Before long, the fierce spider stopped struggling and fell dead.
Seeing this, Karl, who had been about to join the fight, saved himself some spell materials and went over to examine it.
Bad Apple stood to one side, heartbroken as he wiped down his new dagger. "Sigh, I got careless. I shouldn't have used this new dagger on a bug. I should've known their bodily fluids were corrosive."
The dagger was newly forged, a favorite of his, and especially comfortable to use. He hated to see it damaged.
Yan could only rub the back of his head, suppressing the urge to tease him. His own shield was fine. It picked up scratches like that in nearly every fight, and he only took it to a blacksmith for repairs once they had piled up.
Sylutia came over too, covering her nose as she looked at the dead spider.
It was about 1.5 meters wide, with upright white hairs covering its body. They were probably organs for muffling sound and sensing its surroundings. Its two pairs of black fangs had serrations on the inner edges and looked rather frightening.
"The fangs and forelegs are worth something. The rest isn't useful," Karl
