It was only around two in the afternoon, yet the sky was as dark as if night were near, casting an invisible weight over everything.
Mick wielded a greatsword forged from Black Steel and sent an attacking monster flying. The solid, heavy blade moved with astonishing ease in his hands. Every swing struck its target, cleaving and tearing through it.
The alley was now strewn with dead and wounded Mutated Creatures. Sword wounds covered their bodies; even those not quite dead had lost the ability to fight.
Anali stood behind the weathered man, concentrating on controlling her Ghosts to finish off the fallen Mutated Creatures.
Though the mutated beasts had nothing left but animal instinct, they still relied on a faint awareness in their souls to move. If Ghosts devoured those fragile souls, the monsters would turn into heaps of mush and slowly rot.
After clearing out the nearby monsters, the two stepped out of the alley and looked around.
"I wonder how Mr. Oren is doing." Anali summoned her Ghosts to scout in every direction, searching for the other two.
Not long ago, they had been a team of four, come to the City of Star-Gazing to investigate that secretive organization. Soon after entering the city, roaming monsters had spotted them. The ensuing fight drew more monsters toward them, including two of the Fifth Order.
Oren and Luke had little trouble facing the pair, but during the fight, they realized these might not be naturally occurring Mutated Creatures. They were more likely the product of artificial inducement.
With that in mind, they decided not to kill the creatures. Instead, they let them go and followed them to find their lair.
Oren and Luke were both Fifth Order and naturally had no fear of the monsters roaming the city. Anali
