Wang Zhen had finally succeeded in learning the Capacity Expansion Technique. He was overjoyed!
All along, ammunition capacity had been one of the most important factors limiting the power of firearms, alongside the strength of their materials. Ammunition capacity determined how long a gun could keep firing. Take the XM214 Gatling Gun, for example: its rate of fire could be adjusted anywhere from 400 to 10,000 rounds per minute, and it used a flexible 1,000-round belt. Even at its lowest rate of 400 rounds per minute, it could only fire continuously for two and a half minutes. In practice, though, it was almost impossible to use it at that slow a rate. After all, anyone choosing the XM214 Gatling Gun wanted its high rate of fire for suppressive fire.
But once the bullets were gone, what good was suppressive fire?
This awkward problem applied to every kind of firearm!
From pistols to heavy machine guns and even autocannons, they all faced the same issue!
The enemy wasn't dead yet, but the bullets were gone!
It was one of the most common scenes in movies and TV shows, as well as a major obstacle to improving a firearm's effectiveness.
The other issue was the strength of the firearm's materials. Assault rifles, light machine guns, general-purpose machine guns, heavy machine guns, and other weapons designed for sustained fire all faced the same awkward problem. Plenty of folks had probably seen videos online: you pulled the trigger and let rip, and it felt incredible—but before long, the barrel started glowing red...
That meant the firearm's materials weren't strong enough. If you kept firing, you would inevitably affect the weapon's lifespan, accuracy, and other aspects.
But for Wang Zhen now, neither of these problems existed!
Before, his knowledge had been too limited for him to acquire anything that could be called cutting-edge technology. But this time, he had made a generous offering to the Gate of Truth, so he had gained far more knowledge! He had also received a great many reward points, allowing Selene to exchange them with the Main God for more advanced technology and raw materials.
So this time, he had used his newly acquired knowledge to easily solve half of the thorny problem of ammunition capacity.
It was only half because the Transmutation Circle derived from this knowledge could increase capacity and hold more rounds, but it couldn't give him infinite bullets like Zhang Jie's Desert Eagle!
Even so, it was already incredibly useful to Wang Zhen!
After all, his current pistols were heavily modified Remington 1875s, with their caliber increased to 12.7 millimeters—the same as the Smith & Wesson M-500, nicknamed the "hand cannon." Since the bullets were larger, the cylinder naturally held one fewer round. It could only fit five, reducing an already small capacity of six rounds even further!
In the real world, large-caliber revolvers like the Smith & Wesson M-500 mostly appeared at shooting ranges, in short videos, or on hunting trips. No one took them into battle. Their low capacity didn't matter, since their main purpose was to look cool and show off!
But Wang Zhen was different. He really did need to take his heavily modified Remington 1875s into battle!
So the capacity of his two pistols really was a matter of life and death!
Wang Zhen tried several more times and eventually increased the Capacity Expansion Technique tenfold. That gave each of his pistols a capacity of fifty rounds, for a total of a hundred between them. It still wasn't enough to fire endlessly without changing cylinders, but emptying both pistols wouldn't be easy!
After making some headway on the ammunition-capacity problem, Wang Zhen began searching the sea of knowledge for information about firearm materials. Selene had already exchanged for Warhammer World data on Ceramite and Plasteel, along with unknown materials from an alien species brought back from the Alien I world. Taken together, these were technologies far beyond the real world's capabilities. Even so, Wang Zhen kept searching through the knowledge he had obtained from the Gate of Truth.
The reason was simple: most of those materials had nothing to do with the supernatural, especially ghosts and monsters. The vast and eclectic Warhammer World might have advanced data on black technology and psychic powers, but it was expensive, and its technology was far beyond Selene's means. So Wang Zhen thought the Gate of Truth was a safer bet. At least it let him keep taking advantage of it.
What Wang Zhen really needed was a material capable of withstanding his instant Transmutation Circles. He had only test-fired one round just now, but the Flame and Ice Transmutation Circles had already left faint marks around the muzzle. When he used the Lightning Transmutation Circle, the muzzle had inevitably started to melt.
And that was with high-strength alloys Selene had provided.
That was why Wang Zhen needed to search the Gate of Truth's knowledge for suitable materials.
This time, he had gotten a great deal out of the Gate of Truth. After searching for several more hours, he finally found a beautiful shell hidden among the chaotic sands of knowledge.
It was a material called Super God Titanium Alloy. The records only contained its formula and manufacturing process, with no information about its origin. But its specifications were excellent, so Wang Zhen brought the information out.
"This titanium alloy formula and manufacturing method of yours are genuinely innovative, and its specifications look very good. It could even hold its own against materials like Ceramite and Plasteel from Warhammer World. Leave it with me. I'll make a sample and test its actual properties."
Wang Zhen didn't sit idle either. He selected several of the alloys Selene had made, then stepped aside and analyzed them with the Eye of Truth. Using a Transmutation Circle, he broke them down and recombined them, trying to fuse two or more alloys together. In the end, he produced several fully integrated alloys.
He then tested them with the equipment in Selene's workshop. He found that the superalloys he had made by breaking down and recombining the materials with a Transmutation Circle indeed shared the strengths of the two or more component alloys. At the same time, each superalloy also had the combined weaknesses of its components. In some, the strengths complemented each other and reduced those weaknesses. In others, the weaknesses were amplified instead.
By then, Selene had finished making the Super God Titanium Alloy. Wang Zhen then combined it with several other superalloys whose weaknesses were negligible, breaking them down and recombining them through transmutation once more. The resulting superalloy, which he named Super God Titanium Alloy Gamma, met his requirements perfectly.
Then he used a Transmutation Circle and the Super God Titanium Alloy Gamma to make himself two more heavily modified Remington 1875 revolvers!
He also made fifty cylinders with ten times the capacity, filled them with bullets, and prepared for the next world.
"These belt and holsters were made specifically for your two Remington 1875s. They have slots for spare cylinders. You can practice changing them quickly over the next few days."
"Even though each cylinder holds fifty rounds, I still don't think it'll be enough!"
