It was only 5:00 p.m., but the sky was already gradually darkening.
Rolling black clouds swept from east to west, blanketing the sky. The air was unbearably stifling, and the little rooms in the apartment building felt especially damp and hot.
Compared with the cool weather outside, the tiny rooms felt more like insulated steamers.
This weather was way too hot!
Amid a chorus of complaints, the residents opened their windows for ventilation. The sounds of televisions drifted out from some rooms into the hallway, bringing a little life and noise to the place.
In the dim corridor, quite a few people wanted to head out and stock up on supplies before nightfall, while others were packing their luggage and preparing to leave.
"Have you heard? They say there's probably going to be a torrential downpour this time. Our area has already issued a warning, and there might be flooding. I've decided to leave for now and stay with relatives for a couple of days," said a plump woman in a floral plaid dress to the people gathered by the elevator.
Then she turned to the group and said, "They say the chances of flooding are high. Are you really not going somewhere safer? The construction quality of this building might not be that good."
Several other women could not help shaking their heads, while a few thin men in undershirts sighed as well.
"You're lucky—you've got relatives outside! Where are we supposed to find someone to rely on? If we leave this apartment building, unless we spend the night in the wilderness, where else can we go?"
"And there are so many wild beasts out there. It could be even more dangerous than staying in the apartment."
"Exactly. Rather than running around everywhere, we might as well stay here.
