Background / History
Yao Chen regained consciousness inside Xiao Yan’s Mystic Ring three years before revealing himself. He secretly absorbed Xiao Yan’s Dou Qi to restore his damaged soul, causing the boy’s cultivation to regress, while observing his character. He stayed hidden when Xiao Yan abruptly displayed Dou Wang cultivation 5 6.
Xiao Yan forced him out by displaying the Ten Thousand Soul Banner and invoking his desire for revenge against Han Feng and Elder Mu Gu. After the banner suppressed him, Yao Chen surrendered the Burning Mantra in exchange for Xiao Yan’s promise to restore his body and help him take revenge. He still explained the technique’s drawbacks and offered advice 6 8 9.
Xiao Yan then gave him the Myriad Dao Soul-Nurturing Jade as a place to cultivate. Later, the Lotus Lantern, Seven Illusion Green Spirit Saliva, and soul-healing pills greatly accelerated his recovery. Yao Chen pledged his allegiance to Xiao Yan and began addressing him as “Young Master” 9 21 22.

He feels guilty for having drained Xiao Yan’s Dou Qi and agrees to pose as the mentor responsible for the boy’s sudden rise. Once Xiao Yan helps repair his soul, his wary cooperation becomes a pledge of loyal service 14 21 22.
