Background & History
The prison is tied to the legend of its former master, a mortal Dao cultivator who opposed the Heavenly Court’s treatment of humanity. After breaking with the Heavenly Court and entering the Abyss, he returned transformed, led an abyssal demon army against the old gods, sealed the Abyss, and brought powerful abyssal creatures into the Extreme Abyss so humanity could develop without divine interference. He ultimately sacrificed himself for humanity. 679 680
Li Fan first gains access to the Prison of Suppression through the Bronze Key, which merges into his right palm. The key allows him to access the prison, retrieve objects from it, and connect to inmates through psychic chains. 9 16
At first, Li Fan relies on the fear attached to the former Prison Lord’s appearance and reputation to control the prisoners. After the Seal of the Prison of Suppression awakens, the prison fully submits to him: its will and his will become linked, allowing him to command its cells, gates, restraints, and Purgatory. 39 134 136 165
The prison’s reputation throughout the Abyss becomes a weapon in itself. Abyssal Lords and Supreme Rulers fear entering it, while prisoners treat incarceration there as both a threat and a mark of status. 229 276 366 370
Appearance
The Prison of Suppression is an oppressive black structure that can appear in the Abyss or descend into reality. Its interior changes as it evolves, but it consistently resembles a vast prison-hell shaped by confinement, blood-red light, chains, and abyssal architecture. 135 641 650
- A towering black gate, originally simple and deteriorated, later reforms into a vault-like entrance secured by heavy bolts. 136
- Restored walls display twisted ghostly reliefs holding blood-red lamps, filling the prison with crimson light. 135
- The entrance faces the blood-red Abyss and resembles a giant maw waiting to consume anything that approaches. 137 434
- Its main areas include cell blocks, a study containing imprisoned heads, living quarters, a bedroom, an archive-like library, storage rooms, and a ritual room with a metal trough and ancient runes. 137
- A Throne of Bone and Lava serves as the Prison Lord’s seat in its hall and Purgatory. 227 365
- After consuming hell, its interior becomes an immense layered corridor network surrounding nine prison-like hells and a deeper reconstructed Purgatory. 650
Abilities & Functions
Absolute Internal Dominion
Within its boundaries, the Prison of Suppression answers directly to its master’s will.
- Repairs and reshapes damaged cells, locks, gates, and other internal structures. 135 136
- Moves prisoners between cells, halls, Purgatory, and other locations inside the prison instantly. 227 436
- Locates individuals within its interior and can render them unconscious through its power. 236
- Its master experiences the prison as an extension of his own body. 136 165
- Its overwhelming authority is primarily restricted to the prison itself; Li Fan’s borrowed power fades rapidly after leaving its gates. 136
Suppression and Restraint
The prison binds inmates through chains, collars, cells, and direct spiritual suppression.
- Bronze collars and chains sever or weaken a prisoner’s connection to the Abyss. 229
- Its restraints can adapt when ordinary suppression proves insufficient, as demonstrated against Dream Demon. 229
- It can imprison Abyssal Lords, Supreme Rulers, Old Gods, and Heavenly Court deities. 229 366 647 716
- Weaker prisoners are silenced or returned to their cells by a command or a surge of the prison’s power. 370 650
- Suppressing exceptionally powerful entities can tax the prison’s reserves. 229 366
Purgatory and Punishment
Beneath the prison lies Purgatory, a torture realm designed to break and punish its captives.
- Purgatory contains seemingly endless levels of torture and abyssal creatures. 135
- Prisoners can be dragged into it through chains or burning gates opened directly beneath them. 136 277 690
- Its punishments are severe enough to terrify veteran Abyssal Lords and Supreme Rulers. 171 277
- After the prison consumes hell, Purgatory evolves into a deeper and more bizarre structure beneath the nine layers of hell. 650
Gates and Spatial Transit
The Prison of Suppression is closely tied to doors and can connect otherwise distant locations.
- The Key of the Prison of Suppression allows Li Fan to open ordinary doors into its interior. 83 111
- Its gates open directly onto the Abyss and can lure external creatures inside for imprisonment. 136 229
- Its placement in the Abyss changes according to where its gate is opened in reality; opening a gate on the real moon brings it to Evil Moon in the Abyss. 468
- It can descend into reality as a colossal phantom structure, disrupting electronic signals and releasing its prisoners to fight. 640 641
Devouring and Evolution
The prison grows by incorporating other powers and structures.
- It devours the nine layers of hell along with Lucifer and the other Lords of Hell. 647
- It absorbs the power of slain Old Gods, incorporating their statues into itself. 648
- The assimilated hells retain their former tortures while gaining prison cells, chains, and bone-and-lava thrones. 650
- Its growth has no confirmed endpoint; Li Fan identifies it as a still-evolving living entity. 652
