Background / History
Shrek Academy is renowned as a long-established institution that trained numerous high-level soul masters and defended the continent during past soul beast tides. Its prestige and its students’ belief in the academy’s authority fostered a culture in which status was often treated as unquestionable truth 36.
For generations, Shrek competed with the Sun Moon Royal Soul Master Academy in the All-Continent Advanced Soul Master Academy Soul Dueling Tournament. Although Sun Moon possessed superior soul guidance technology, Shrek repeatedly prevailed, creating a deep institutional rivalry 24.
Shrek’s administration was centered on the Sea God Pavilion, led by Pavilion Master Yun Ming and its elders. The academy also maintained a ten-thousand-year alliance with the Tang Sect, including joint training, technology exchange, and a major pipeline of graduates into Tang Sect service 57 65.
Reputation and Internal Issues
- Shrek was considered the continent’s premier academy and had never fallen from the Grand Tournament’s top three over ten thousand years 37.
- Its Outer Court students were promoted as exceptional young talents, and many aspiring soul masters regarded admission to Shrek as an honor 24.
- The academy’s prominence also encouraged arrogance among some core students, who treated their emblem and institutional history as grounds for superiority 36.
- Cai Yue'er, a Sea God Pavilion elder, suppressed work-study student Yuanen Yehui’s applications for Core Disciple status and auxiliary breakthrough pills while favoring family disciples who brought her gifts 56.
- Resource inequality among work-study students and major-family disciples later contributed to the academy’s transfer crisis 64.
Major Arcs
East Sea Exhibition Match
Shrek invited the Sky Sea Alliance to host a youth exhibition match in East Sea City, intending to demonstrate the strength of its Outer Court students. The Federation covertly arranged for Sun Moon Royal Soul Master Academy’s strongest students—Li Chen, Gu Yue, and Na'er—to compete under East Sea Academy identities 24 25.
Before the match, several Shrek core students confronted the disguised team after Na'er shared grilled fish with Shrek student Xu Lizhi. Xu Lizhi attempted to prevent violence, while the other students invoked Shrek’s history and status before withdrawing in the face of Li Chen’s pressure 36.
Li Chen subsequently defeated Shrek’s seven representatives one by one, using seven moves and the Pluto Sword’s Law of Death manifestation. East Sea Academy was declared the winner, and Federation media publicized the defeat as the shattering of Shrek’s invincibility myth 37 38 39.
Shrek’s elders responded by arranging for a one-word Battle Armor master to publicly challenge Li Chen, seeking to restore the academy’s standing 39 40.
Underworld Attack
Three Underworld beings—Yuantan, Hainuo, and Doria—attacked Shrek Academy. They breached its defenses, fought Shrek’s strongest combatants, killed several Super Douluos, critically injured Zang Xin, and looted the Sea God Pavilion treasury 59 60 63.
Yun Ming returned to find the academy devastated. His strongest technique, Heaven-Propping: Sun Shooter, was shattered by Yuantan, leaving him unable to defeat the attackers 61.
Yun Ming ultimately used a Demigod-level law of repulsion to force the three attackers beyond Shrek City. The backlash reduced his cultivation to level 99 and left him unable to recover fully for at least a decade 62 63.
Federal First Soul Master Academy and Withdrawal Crisis
Following Shrek’s weakening, the Federation and Spirit Pagoda established the Federal First Soul Master Academy outside Shrek City. The new academy offered free initial soul spirits, cultivation resources, living subsidies, direct entry into the federal system, and access to the Spirit Pagoda’s talent-development program 63 64.
Shrek simultaneously faced restrictive federal employment measures, including unpaid service requirements for graduates entering the federal system and guidance that placed Shrek graduates last in hiring under equal conditions 64.
The result was a large-scale withdrawal wave. Within ten days of the rival academy opening, Shrek’s Outer Court dropout rate exceeded 30%, half of its work-study dormitories were empty, and Inner Court core disciples had submitted transfer applications 65.
The Tang Sect then terminated all cooperation with Shrek, ending technology exchanges, joint research, and twelve joint training programs 65.
Failed Counteroffensive and Escalation
Acting Pavilion Master Long Yeyue called for a student competition against the Federal First Soul Master Academy to demonstrate that Shrek could still cultivate dominant geniuses. Shrek’s team was defeated, with seven one-word Battle Armor masters suppressed by one opponent and their Seven-in-One Martial Soul Fusion reflected back at double force 65 70.
After the loss, Long Yeyue proposed declarations of war against the Federation, Spirit Pagoda, Tang Sect, Sun Moon Royal Soul Master Academy, Federal First Soul Master Academy, and several other major powers 70.
Shrek graduates assembled in Shrek City to protest the Federation’s actions, citing the rival academy’s recruitment, media attacks on Shrek’s founders, the Tang Sect’s withdrawal, and restrictions imposed on Shrek graduates 72.
Federal Takeover
Following Chen Xinjie’s death, the Federation characterized Shrek as a gathering place for “careerists, opportunists, and anti-Federation elements,” using its declaration of war as justification for escalated action 77.
Four federal legions, totaling nearly fifty thousand troops, took control of Shrek City. Long Yeyue was defeated and captured, while Yun Ming—still weakened—failed to rescue her. Federal forces searched Shrek Academy using Tang Sect-provided lists and arrested hundreds of students and staff 78.
Long Yeyue and Cai Yue'er were publicly executed. Shrek then signed the Shrek Academy Special Supervision Regulations, which imposed repayment of alleged tax arrears, public-security and military taxes, a federal garrison, joint Federation–Spirit Pagoda control of academy resources, and the removal of Sea God Pavilion elders from management 80.
Current Condition
- Shrek City is under Federal control, while Sea God Island has been renamed the Confinement Center 86.
- The Golden Tree, formerly reserved for Shrek’s elders and core disciples, was confiscated for cultivation by students of the Federal First Soul Master Academy 86.
- Shrek’s former elders remain under the restrictions imposed by the special supervision treaty 80 86.
- Despite its decline, Shrek City continues to host major inter-academy events, including the Star Luo Royal Academy delegation’s exchange activities 83 89.
