On a desolate land lies an oasis, and upon a lake as clear as a pearl stands a palace.
That is the lair of Fortuneteller Baba, the elder sister of Master Roshi.
"It's huge. How much did it cost to build a palace like this? Is fortune-telling really that profitable? Truly, one must have a specialized skill to get ahead." After sighing with such sentiment, Zhang Wutian and the others walked toward the gatehouse.
After waiting in line and going through the necessary procedures, the group finally stood before Fortuneteller Baba.
"Oh my, isn't this my little brother? I didn't expect to see you at a time like this."
Sitting atop a floating crystal, Fortuneteller Baba, who looked like a quintessential old witch, spoke to Master Roshi.
"You've made quite a fortune relying on fortune-telling all these years, sister. For someone like you, are there really things that catch you by surprise?" Master Roshi asked, facing his sister.
"Ho ho ho, I don't go out of my way to divine trivial matters; after all, my services are quite expensive."
After exchanging pleasantries with Master Roshi, Fortuneteller Baba turned to Zhang Wutian's group and said, "Are you the ones seeking my help? Even if you were brought by my brother, I won't provide readings for free. You should know my rules, shouldn't you?"
"Payment or a fight?" Zhang Wutian said. "We choose to fight."
"Heh heh... such a hot-blooded young man. That makes it interesting." After laughing, Fortuneteller Baba led everyone to a circular arena in the middle of the lake.
The specifications of this arena were similar to those of the World Martial Arts Tournament. Once they arrived, the first battle began.
"Let me take the lead." The first to step out for Zhang Wutian's side was Krillin, while Fortuneteller Baba's side fielded a Vampire who practiced Muay Thai and could switch between human and bat forms at will.
Once the opponent transformed into a bat, he moved like the wind. Krillin couldn't grasp the rhythm at all and was toyed with, ending up in a sorry state.
"Is the opponent that fast?" Son Wukong stood beside Zhang Wutian, asking with a puzzled expression, "Why is Krillin in such a mess? He could clearly hit the opponent with just a light punch."
"That's because you've already become stronger," Zhang Wutian replied, patting Son Wukong's spiky, stubborn hair. "You've fought against much stronger masters, and your horizons have been broadened, so naturally, you look down on such weaklings. But Krillin is different from you; he hasn't experienced those kinds of battles yet."
"Is that so..." Son Wukong thought for a moment, then shouted toward the arena, "Krillin, do your best! The opponent is nothing special!"
"Easy for you to say!!" Dizzy from being circled by the flying bat, Krillin had to guard against sudden aerial strikes while trying to listen to Son Wukong, and in the end, his weakness was exploited.
"Krillin, defeated!!"
Krillin, having been drained of blood, was sent off for an emergency transfusion, while Zhang Wutian curiously poked the Ghost performing the transfusion with his finger.
"You can actually touch them? It feels like dried-up jelly. What's the principle behind this?"
"Customer, please do not interfere with my work." The Ghost was thoroughly annoyed by Zhang Wutian's pestering.
The second person to step up for Zhang Wutian's side was Yamcha.
Facing the wind-like Vampire bat, Yamcha actually held the advantage.
The reason was simple: "Wolf Fang Fist!!" Having trained with Master Roshi for a while, Yamcha was stronger than he was in the original story. Relying on his fist technique to boost his speed, the Vampire's agility, which had been effective against Krillin, was useless against superior speed, and the Vampire's own frail body meant he couldn't withstand even a single blow.
And so, the Vampire bat was sent flying directly into the bottom of the lake.
"Yamcha wins!!"
Yamcha looked triumphantly at Zhang Wutian, only to find him studying the Ghost's anatomy with Son Wukong, while Bulma was cheering for her boyfriend instead.
After all, the level of combat here was truly too low. Having experienced the battle against Evil Son Goku, even if the second King Piccolo appeared before him now, Zhang Wutian could handle him with ease.
So, when would the second King Piccolo appear? That was at least six years away. Until then, Zhang Wutian was practically invincible; his only rival in this world was Son Wukong.
Zhang Wutian was treating this like a field trip, but Yamcha didn't see it that way. Feeling looked down upon, he focused all his frustration on his second opponent, but his opponent didn't play by the rules.
"Invisible Man?!" Facing an opponent he couldn't see at all, Yamcha fell into a bitter struggle.
After taking a few hits, he managed to barely track the opponent's movements by ear, but after Fortuneteller Baba started singing at the top of her lungs, even that sole chance of victory was stripped away.
On the sidelines, hearing Fortuneteller Baba's singing and feeling that it was only fair to have some outside help of his own, Zhang Wutian called out, "Yamcha, don't rely on sight or hearing. Fight by feeling."
"What??" Yamcha, already dizzy from being beaten, paused in confusion at Zhang Wutian's words.
"The opponent is just an Invisible Man, not someone who has completely vanished. He is a physical existence. Close your eyes and use your heart to sense his every move. You've trained in the Turtle Hermit School; you should be able to do this!"
"Tch, I feel like I'm being lectured from on high. I've always wanted to surpass you!" Following Zhang Wutian's advice, Yamcha calmed his mind and closed his eyes. Thanks to his training in the Turtle Hermit School, he had actually mastered the basics of ki. Subconsciously, he released this ki outside his body, and then Yamcha sensed the air currents stirred by the opponent's movements.
This time, there was no need for Bulma to sell her charms as she did in the original story. Finally catching the opponent's tail, Yamcha unleashed his ultimate move without hesitation.
"Wolf Fang Fist!!" After a flurry of combos, another opponent who relied on cheap tricks rather than true strength was knocked into the lake.
"Well done, Yamcha!!" Bulma, completely unaware that she had escaped the danger of having to sell her charms, jumped up and cheered.
Master Roshi nodded in satisfaction.
"So that's it. Every move the opponent makes causes a change in the air currents. I never noticed that before. Thank you, Zhang Wutian."
Facing Yamcha's sincere gratitude, Zhang Wutian felt a bit awkward. What he had intended to suggest wasn't this, but rather how to grasp the ki inside an opponent. The skill Yamcha had just learned was far from what he had meant to teach.
"Alright, whatever. As long as you're happy." In the end, Zhang Wutian just shrugged and said that.
After dealing with the Invisible Man, Fortuneteller Baba moved the battlefield to what was known as the Devil's Toilet.
Below lay a pool filled with highly toxic water, and the combatants had to fight on the tongue of a demon statue.
"Yamcha, you've fought two rounds. Leave the next one to me."
"What are you saying? I can still fight!" Having won two matches, Yamcha was full of fighting spirit.
"But I can fly." Zhang Wutian simply floated into the air. "I won't fall down, so it's safer if I go."
Watching Zhang Wutian floating in mid-air, Yamcha suddenly felt that what Zhang Wutian said made a lot of sense.
To let you maintain a winning record in front of Bulma, so you don't have to slink away like a loser, this is all I can do for you.
Thinking this, Zhang Wutian floated down to the fighting arena. Seeing Zhang Wutian's flight, Fortuneteller Baba raised an eyebrow: "Since when did your student get mixed up with the Crane School? Have you two made up?"
"Zhang Wutian is not a student of mine or that foolish crane," Master Roshi said with a smile. "He might just surprise you, sister."
"Ho ho ho, I'd like to see just how capable this kid is."
And so, Zhang Wutian's opponent, the sturdy-looking Mummy Man, took the stage.
"My opponent is this little sprout? Too weak. Don't blame me if I beat him to death." Compared to Mummy Man's massive frame, Zhang Wutian, though muscular, was a full size smaller. Naturally, he was mocked by Mummy Man.
"Your bandages will come in handy immediately," Zhang Wutian said calmly.
"Heh heh, you ignorant fool," Mummy Man laughed.
"The match begins!" Fortuneteller Baba announced.
Before the words had even faded, the match was over.
In the blink of an eye, Zhang Wutian appeared before Mummy Man and sent him flying with a single punch.
Below lay the Poison Pond. Mummy Man fell in without any reaction, but the bandages on his body saved his life; one end was caught in Zhang Wutian's hand, which ultimately stopped his fall.
"I told you, your bandages would come in handy immediately."
Pulling Mummy Man back onto the Devil's Tongue, Zhang Wutian said calmly: "Can you move him away? And then send out the next opponent."
"W-what was that?" Krillin stared, eyes wide, looking at Zhang Wutian in the distance.
"Yamcha, did you see that clearly?"
"How is that possible! My eyes just blurred, and the enemy was already flying."
"Old Turtle, where did that kid come from?" Fortuneteller Baba's eyes were round with shock. "With this level of strength, isn't he already stronger than your late master?"
I only barely managed to track his movement when he threw that punch. Since when did this young man become so strong? Master Roshi thought, his expression grave and silent.
"What's wrong with everyone?" Only Son Wukong looked at her companions in confusion. "Zhang Wutian just moved a little; there's nothing to be surprised about. This doesn't even count as a warm-up."
"You could see his movements?" Master Roshi turned his head sharply to ask Son Wukong.
Not just Master Roshi, but Yamcha and Krillin also focused on Son Wukong's expression.
Son Wukong nodded honestly, indicating that her own strength was probably only a little behind Zhang Wutian's, and it wouldn't take long for her to catch up.
"To be this strong, how do you two train?" Krillin asked.
Yamcha, meanwhile, fell into a state of depression: "Is the gap really that big? And here I thought that as long as I worked hard, I could catch up."
Only Bulma and the other non-combatants hadn't grasped the situation; they only knew Zhang Wutian seemed strong, but had no concept of just how powerful he truly was.
"Is this the new era I've been waiting for..." Master Roshi closed her eyes. Yet, there was no frustration in her heart at being surpassed; instead, she felt optimistic and relieved.
"King Piccolo, even if you break your seal now, this time there will be outstanding young people to put an end to your atrocities. My mission is finally over."
"This old woman can finally enjoy her twilight years." Thinking this, a look of relief spread across Master Roshi's face.
